Re: Automatic or Stick which R/T do you prefer and why?

i ordered mine with a stick. for this car i would want it, more control over it. this car will just be a toy for me, but if i was going to be driving it every day, i would probably get an auto.

cost for some people might be a factor as well. $1000.00 option in the US (i think) or $2000.00 here in canada

Re: Automatic or Stick which R/T do you prefer and why?

I chose an automatic for my SRT. I live in a fairly congested area and felt that constantly down****ing would be a pain. Also, the 5-speed autostick is a quality Mercedes-built unit that provides extremely consistent quarter-mile times.

Re: Automatic or Stick which R/T do you prefer and why?

I drive a stick every day now in NYC - area traffic and am completely used to it. I don't know what to do with myself when I travel and get stuck in a rental car with an auto!

Re: Automatic or Stick which R/T do you prefer and why?

i would definately get a stick. its like chintzel said, you just get used to it and its like second nature. The auto is a fine transmission however, i just prefer to have the extra control on my car's rpms

Re: Automatic or Stick which R/T do you prefer and why?

its all a matter of preference. Used to be that a stick would have better performance, but with the advancement in automatics, that mantra no longer applies.

I went with the 6 speed because this car is my toy.

Re: Automatic or Stick which R/T do you prefer and why?

a) stick shift for me!! Manual transmission (especially American) cars are not that commonplace and this was a great opportunity to get a good Tremec tranny with a high-po (dual disc) clutch that won't feel like a truck.

b) I have a Mercedes CLK with the 5-speed automatic. The best auto tranny I've ever owned - it's adaptive and doesn't feel "slushy" like the old days of American automatics. The LX & LC series V8 cars use the same MB tranny.

Either way, you get a good driveline - gets down to personal preference.

PS: the 6spd R/T gets anti-spin differential, where the automatics have an "open" differential and will accomplish anti-spin by using ESP to tame that effect (same system as MB, again).

I've been driving a stick continously since '84.

I used to own a '74 Roadrunner that was automatic. I got to try out another '74 Roadrunner with 400ci V8 with the original 4 speed /pistol grip shifter - that one was fun - but they were kind of rare even back then.
