Re: Automatic or Stick which R/T do you prefer and why?

If I was buying a 4-door family sedan or a minivan, I would get an automatic. But a 2-door coupe needs a stick shift for the fun factor in my opinion.
Traffic or not, I want to use the clutch and shift gears. It's part of the thrill for me.

I would have probably bought a Charger in the last year or two had they been available in manual.

Re: Automatic or Stick which R/T do you prefer and why?

Besides the style of the car, the manual tranny with the pistol grip shifter was my favorite part of my 71 & 72 340 Challengers. It's more fun to drive winding out those gears. If it wasn't for the manual tranny I would just keep my Charger R/T. My favorite car movie has always been vanishing point since I saw it as a teenager in the late 70's. I always wanted a white 70 Challenger with a Hemi or 440 and a 4-speed pistol grip shifter. I never thought in my wildest dreams that Chrysler would remake a realistic reproduction of 70 Challenger with a Hemi and a manual transmission. So nows my chance. Thank you Chrysler!

I was sure I wanted the stick until I heard it will come with CAGS. Now I'm considering the automatic.

Auto for me. In the spring I will be in stop-and-go traffic for at least 2 hours everyday.

The skip-shift feature will be able to be disabled by a small/cheap dongle (which Viper owners already use to disable it and they have the Tremec T-6060 transmission -- same as the Challenger) and/or by DiabloSport's Predator tuner. If the skip-shift feature is the ONLY thing holding you back, that's pretty silly

For those unaware
CAGS = Computer Aided Gear Selection

Also referred to as the "Skip-shift" feature. Under extremely slow acceleration/low rpm acceleration the skip-shift feature will force you to shift from 1 to 4. This is done as a 'cheat' to get the car to yield a better MPG rating and save you money on the gas guzzler tax.

However, initial reviews of the 6-speeds have shown that it's really tough to get the skip-shift to enforce the 1 -> 4 shift unless you're REALLY driving the car like a granny.

Again, this skip-shift feature will be easily disabled by a small dongle for $30 or so and/or the predator tuner (which most people will want to buy anyway). Not a reason to skip out on the 6-speed in my opinion.

There's actually a thread on it already on these forums: skip shift eliminator?
