Being an R/T auto owner I'm monitoring the "TC issue" but its not a huge concern to me at this point. I've been through this with other vehicles on other forums. The fact is that the experiences shared online are a small sample of all others also online and much smaller when you consider all auto R/T's sold.

Im not dismissing the problem as a "non-issue" or saying folks shouldn't have some concern over it. .....just that at this point at least, its not going to affect any decisions I make or actions I take.

I have 38k miles on my 2010 R/T auto with no drivetrain issues. The trans doesn't concern me considering its track record and other than the TC, I haven't really been too concerned over the engine. We'll see how it all plays out as my warranty coverage winds down.

You may be hard pressed to find a lot of R/T auto's in the 50K mile range on the site. I'm sitting at 34,5K for my 2010 R/T auto with no drivetrain issues to date.

Could be.....

OP, you may be better off researching what model years of the Charger shared the same 5.7 with the auto and check those forums for higher mileage feedback.

OK, so I'll share about my '07 Charger R/T with 88,500 miles on the clock, then.

Purchased at 44,500 (CPO), it almost immediately went back to the shop for a broken motor mount and cracked engine block. I received no explanation for the latter except a "possible bad casting", while the first issue I learned to be common.

The NAG-1 has been bulletproof except that it recently started refusing to upshift in AutoStick (only) and went into limp mode once as I came to a stop. I think it overheats a bit and it's a tad lazy when cold (normal). It was serviced once around 50K, IIRC, and probably needs another service or at the very least a fluid refill.

The MDS is obnoxious as hell (with reso delete I can hear and feel it). It comes on any chance it gets, which is as soon as the load drops and at practically any speed. Upon reacceleration after some engine braking it causes a lag (as if it resists going back to V8 operation). I hate it with a passion.
I've played in AutoStick about 90% of the time for the last 25-30K miles, in part because of how much more fun it is. Since discovering the TC failures thread here I also quit putting the car in Drive on the freeway and cruise at 65-70 in 5th instead.

The cooling system (a weak spot in most of my other V8 cars) has been suprisingly trouble-free. It gets hot in SoCal and I drive hard in the city. Although I haven't confirmed it I think that a 180 thermostat has been installed and the fans get a workout but keep soldiering on. The gauge has been rock solid right in the middle or a bit below on cold days. The least heat soak I've ever seen on a large engine.

Conclusion: the motor feels very healthy and, with a little TLC, so would the tranny. I think I inherited a lemon or a car that was abused by its first owner. I also think that if you plan on keeping those cars, replacing fluids more often than the schedule recommends is probably a good idea. My steering pump had a horrible whine that largely went away when I had it flushed and refilled, for example, which was supposedly not needed.

The Challenger I'm hopefully getting next week will be over-maintained (not babied), and I expect it to last a long time.

2009 Auto R/T with 75,000 Miles. No major problems with engine or trans, changed spark plugs and trans fluid at 45,000 and she still runs like new. Only engine issue has been with the oil control selonoid screen breaking... Im having a new issue that just start happening... when i make a left turn my abs,esc light illuminates and i get that damn chime. I will take it in for this issue soon!

Well it's not a challenger ,but my mother-in-law's 300C that used to be mine has 63,000 flawless miles on it. The only thing that was ever done was brakes and scheduled service.
