Biggest waste of mod money...

These cars are made to personalize and modify; but, as a general guideline, there are usually some things that are popular but give very little in return and may actually create more headaches. What are some things to avoid like an IRS audit?

this I will get flamed for, the the KB supercharger website said this.... On all our kits we upgrade the exhaust, Good news for you Mopar guys! the Dodge exhaust system is super efficient and flows great, no need to upgrade.....
so, as much as I LOVED my SVT exhaust on my bullitt mustang (off road with true duals) I get a lot of people saying how good THIS car sounds????? I could here it more in the cheaper made stang, it may be due to how quite the car is, and outside it sounds better then one would think. that being said, the 2012 challengers (RTs) we cant find a tune for, the exhaust isnt going to add HP thats worth the cost for 8hp, possible less, I am sure other hear will tell you they got 25! whatever, if Mr. Bell says they are golden, theyre golden, period, so, there is a cold air intake, but this too is susect for 2012, as they are (i just read this) using the SRT airbox, pulling cool air from under the wheel well, like ford, they caught on to "easy" HP tunes like CAI and exhaust system.....
so go ahead guys, slam me to the ground, I feel that for a 2012 challenger RT 6 speed, the best bang for our buck????? well, seeing we are "rowing" thru 3 gears to 60mph, the Hurst comp. plus2 short throw kit $389? may be the mod that make the absolute best sense to me, 34% shorter throws, may acually mean real time numbers down low, and next month Ill let you know as with 3/4 tank gas, cold tires, completely level, did a 5.2 (evic) I am pretty sure by the evic with 4-5 gal of gas, do a real warm up on good pavement, it will be a true five sec car, I want to be able to make it legit, like my bullitt, that thing had no probs doing 5 sec 0-60 times over and over again.
btw today I pulled No.2 fuse to recalibrate the "learning" mode on how I drive for the algorithm, its worked, very responsive, but its babied so bad thats how its "wanted" to drive, forgot to do "light trick" so I have 100 start-ups to learn again...may redo it for the "50"

Don't sweat it, Sim, that's exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for and appreciate. If the OEM exhaust is that good than maybe change it for sound (ie louder)? Or, you're going redonkculous with your power mods and need the bigger pipes. Stock works for me (more $$$ for clutch, shifter, stereo...)

tickets....
LOL!!!

Yeah, bad no matter what you drive! My wife got a speeding ticket in a Festiva, going uphill!!! Judging by his car (and his shear girth) I guess we were the only ones he could catch that day.

The stock exhaust is great, we just had someone in the 6.4 forums confirm that going from bone stock to a K&N drop in filter plus Zoomers cat back, yielded 2 horsepower, and honestly that may have just been the added miles that attributed to the gain.

But OH the sound!!!!

Throttle Body Spacer makes for a good paperweight.

The suitcase muffler on RT automatics can in no way be as free flowing as the two magnaflows I put in its place. Each side has three passes. It's a miracle the exhaust gases find their way through that maze. The $65 I spent for the 2011 Charger clean air duct was done for looks getting rid of that ugly silencer, getting the long centered AIT was a bonus that in all likelyhood gets a more accurate temp sent to the PCM.

The strut braces seem like more of a visual mod to me. They do look cool, but 99% of us wont be pushing our cars hard enough to need that extra bracing.

+1. I think the article was referring or meant to refer to the 6-speed exhaust only. For the automatics, it's a whole different story.

Not true. I was under the same impression, once. Very noticeable difference in handling right away, even on the SE/SXT.

------

I think the cold air intake is prolly the worst investment for the money. Buy for the looks not any promised performance.

For cat-back systems, buy for the sound, and again, not for performance.

Sounds logical to me. I think thats a great first mod.
