Need Help/Questions with RT Options

Ok so after reading some posts on driving the Chally in the winter I decided that I am not going to drive the Chally RT in the winter (I live in Ma. but am originally from Canada and drive back to visit friends and family once a month). My plan is to purchase the RT, keep it for 2 to 3 years and then trade for the convertible model. If I option the car the way I want, I end paying for options I won't use. I can't figure out if I can live without the options I want and save the money or is worth spending the extra cash and getting the options I want but paying for extras I won't use.

Here's what I come up with so far:

2009 Challenger RT F-PKG 6-Speed w/Sunroof $31940 MSRP my upgrades to this car would be leather seats and HID lights, which I can get aftermarket for less than $1000 = $32940

2009 Challenger RT J-PKG 6-speed, sunroof, HID, Leather, Electronic Convienience Group, Heated Seats and mirrors = $35,930.
Here's my problem: Is it worth it to get the options I want even if I am paying for options I won't use/want. I'll break it down:

Options I would like but have questions
Universal Consumer Interface (UCI) - Does anybody know what this is?
Illuminated Door Pull Handles - Does anybody have these or seen if this a good option?
Traveler/Mini Trip Computer - Anybody use this yet?
Vehicle Information Center - Sounds cool but What does it give you?
Instrument Cluster w/Display Screen - Sounds cool What does this include?
Illuminated Cupholders - Anybody have this Is it worth having?
Body-Color Exterior Mirrors
Luxury Front and Rear Floor Mats Incl.
Automatic Headlamps Incl.
Steering Wheel Mounted Audio Controls
Temperature and Compass Gauge

Don't want
Tire Pressure Monitoring Display
Universal Garage Door Opener
Remote Start System
UConnect Hands-Free Communication
Security Alarm
Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror with Microphone
Power Heated Fold Away Mirrors Incl.
Heated Front Seats Incl.
6 Boston Acoustics Speakers Incl.
AM/FM CD MP3 Radio Incl.
SIRIUS Satellite Radio Incl.

Any info or insight would be appreciated. There are no cars to compare at dealers and the less I have to rely on the dealer for info the better.

Thx in advance

Re: Need Help/Questions with RT Options

If you are getting rid of the car in 2-3 years, order the less expensive F package.

Universal Consumer Interface (UCI) - Does anybody know what this is?

I believe this for I-pod comparability, you can control through your radio.

Illuminated Door Pull Handles - Does anybody have these or seen if this a good option?

Never seen it. It might be cool but I wouldn't buy a $1000 option for it.

Traveler/Mini Trip Computer - Anybody use this yet?

My Jeep has it, I can live without it. It shows ave mileage, miles to empty, etc

Vehicle Information Center - Sounds cool but What does it give you?
Instrument Cluster w/Display Screen - Sounds cool What does this include?

Basically the same as above. Thats where the info is displayed. It will also give you a compass, temp etc. Now The SRT comes with a performance timer with theirs. I'm not clear if the R/T will have this. It's kinda cool. But again I wouldn't pay $1000 for the package to get it

Illuminated Cupholders - Anybody have this Is it worth having?

Could be useful. But again I wouldn't pay $1000 for the package to get it. But then again I don't drink in my cars

Body-Color Exterior Mirrors

You'll get body colered folding mirrors whether or not you buy the J package. The only difference is the J package mirrors are heated.

Luxury Front and Rear Floor Mats Incl.

You can get these on e-bay, not a big deal

Automatic Headlamps Incl.

Headlights that turn on themselves, I can struggle to manually turn them on

Steering Wheel Mounted Audio Controls

I like this on my Jeep. But once again it's not worth me paying a extra $1000 for it

Temperature and Compass Gauge

See above

Don't want
Tire Pressure Monitoring Display
Universal Garage Door Opener
Remote Start System
UConnect Hands-Free Communication
Security Alarm
Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror with Microphone
Power Heated Fold Away Mirrors Incl.
Heated Front Seats Incl.

I really feel your pain. I had a rough time trying to decide. This car will be replacing my Mach1 and is just really a toy. So I wanted to keep the price reasonalble. It really didn't work. Here's How I originally ordered my R/T

27F package
6speed Trackpack
20' CC wheels
Hood to fender stripes
sound group
MSRP 33,535

I thought that would be perfect for me. A better radio is a must for me. I love music and the BA sound system in the Jeep sounds great. One of the better factory systems I heard. One problem was, I was under the assumption that the Sat radio was iincluded in the sound group. Boy, was I wrong. It was an extra $195.00. That would push my MSRP to $33,730. But looked over the J package. I really wanted the leather, and I really wanted the push to start. Since the sound group and SAT radio are included in the J package, I went ahead and changed the order. Basically the leather seats and push to start added only $945 to the MSRP. So here's how the R/T is coming.

27J package
6 speed Track pack
20in CC wheels
hood to fender stripes
sound group.
new MSRP $34,675

For me it paid to get the J package. I figured it would cost more than $945 to get a set of Katzkins installed (My original intention when I ordered the F package). Doesn't mean that my situation will help you. You just have to sit down and figure out some things. Factor in your budget, what you can and can't live without, and most of all research throughly what the aftermarket HID and leather install will cost and the type of job you'll get for the money. That will be the key.

I don't know if any of this will help. But let us know what you chose!!

Re: Need Help/Questions with RT Options

My order was the

27 J Package
6 Speed Track Pack
20 Inch Wheels - to get the 3.92 rear gear
HID Lights

$35,170 MSRP incl the $675.00 Dest Charge

The 6 speed cars don't have remote start. I thought I wanted the electronic conv group until I realized the SRT8 I was sitting in didnt have alot of that stuff and the stuff it had,,, I didnt want and wasnt going to pay extra for.

Re: Need Help/Questions with RT Options

Yes I do mean Challenger sorry, fixed that thx. Thanks for all your posts, this helps alot. I think I can live without the extras, it would be nice to have all the lighting and display information but I rather save the $2500, considering it's a summer car only.

Re: Need Help/Questions with RT Options

The only options I wanted are the 6-speed and an upgraded radio (six speaker) since the standard radio didn't sound all that great in the Charger I test drove. I didn't want leather, yo GIG, nav, or illuminated door pull handles.

My car will be an all year car and I know I will enjoy it. It will be just as fun to me without all the bling.

Re: Need Help/Questions with RT Options

bwbike you got to test drive the car..which model? I didn't even get to that. I went shopping yesterday and all I could find was SRT8 or SE on dealer lots and to say the least test driving an SRT8 at all the dealerships I went to was out of the question. I am now doubting my choice of color which was DWB. The color in the brochures is very deceiving and it is much darker than I thought. What I was hoping was that it was a Blue that is similar to the new ZR1Corvette

I would like to drive it in the winter, but every car I have had always seems to get beaten by winter with stone chips, sand in the carpets and what peaves me the most is the headlights that get pitted and hazed...I just don't know if I can live with that on this car.

Re: Need Help/Questions with RT Options

RevoRT, If you want to drive a SE I know a dealer in Dorchester MA (where I ordered my car from) that im sure he will let you take it for a ride (I drove it yesterday, even though i already ordered my R/T over a month ago from him) But if you want to know his name and stuff let me know and im sure he will have no problem letting you drive it. As for the SRT he said they sold there last one for sticker on Thursday so it was gone.

I dont think they have any r/t's coming any time soon though (mine might be the first one coming)
