I have the Borla ATAK catback system on my car. It's one of the loudest, if not the loudest, out there.
The ATAK is really a two-faced exhaust. What I mean is, when you're just cruising it's really not that loud at all and has a nice tone. But when you step into it, it really wakes up and screams.
I have had my system on the car now for probably three months or so. Some things I have noticed about it are:
Pros:
- The tips look awesome. The best for the car IMO.
- The sound under normal acceleration is very deep and it growls nicely, especially after being broken in.
- Under full throttle, it turns pretty violent and can be heard from quite a distance
- Premium stainless steel construction. This will outlive your car. Premium quality and finish.
- Million mile warranty
- Makes the Hemi sound like a Hemi. Stock was far too quiet.
Cons:
- DRONE. It's terrible at 60-65 mph. I've come to accept living with it, but if you don't like drone you should avoid this exhaust. Borla claims it generates "minimal cabin noise". B.S.
- Price. My system cost me $1500 installed, and that was a good deal.
- Fit. Yeah, believe it or not my exhaust shop had issues with the fitment of this kit. I was quite surprised.
If you're looking for an aggressive exhaust setup and have an auto transmission, I would suggest the Corsa Extreme system. Corsa guarantees no drone and is made of the highest quality materials, just like Borla. However, be aware that a Corsa car will always be quieter than a Borla ATAK car by a lot. Many seem to think that Corsa isn't worth the money because it doesn't sound much louder than stock and has a higher-pitched tone. The Borla ATAK has a deep, lopey, muscle car tone to it. If drone doesn't bother you, I'd go Borla all day long.
For best results, try to visit a local car show and see if you can hear some systems in person. Most owners are happy to help. I've shown my Borla off to people many, many times and never had a negative comment on the sound. And I agree....the tone is awesome from outside the car. I just wish it didn't drone quite so bad. Of course, any exhaust that eliminates the rear resonators is going to cause drone. BUT....without removing them, you are limited on how much sound you can get.
Exhaust is such a personal preference...someone may hate one sound, while it sounds golden to someone else. One thing I will say is do not go by internet clips. I did...and I was expecting my system to be much louder than it turned out to be, though I'm used to some seriously loud exhausts.
Best of luck on whatever you decide and take your time. You only want to do this modification once.
