I have talked about this in the "Sideways" post, but wanted to get this into its own post. I have completed the NOESP (No ESP, complete SRT-Style ESP Disable Solution )mod and want to say it works great. If you want your R/T to act like the SRT with its total off ESP you have to do this mod. It was not hard, but is a little diff from the instuctions on there web site as this was org made the 300s, mags, and Chargers. You will have to remove the console to get to the wires you need and remove the a/c controles face plate. but this was a very easy mod. When you cut the purple wire with the light blue stripe. make sure you do it close to the gyro box under the console. They key trick works, but you dont have to be moving for this mod to work. You can be stoped in the staging lanes and this will still work.
guys why would you ever want traction control or even abs? I sold my 2001 1000 rwhp camaro which had no traction control and deleted abs for my wilwood breaks. IF i can drive 1000rwhp on the street just fine you guys will be ok lol... If ya dont know how to drive then go practice first before shutting it off. Its useless. Abs is ok if you drive in crap weather i suppose but its not even something that you fail inspection on if its errored in the pcm. Why have the power if ya cant use it, thats what i say. :grim:
Instructions for popping out the push to start button are in your owners manual page 246:
Installing and Removing the ENGINE START/STOP Button
Installing the Button
1. Remove the ignition key. 2. Insert the ENGINE START/STOP button into the ignition switch with the lettering facing up and readable. 3. Press firmly on the center of the button to secure it into position.
Removing the Button 1. The ENGINE START/STOP button can be removed from the ignition switch for regular ignition key use. 2. Insert the metal part of the valet key under the chrome bezel at the 6 o’clock position and gently pry the button loose.
NOTE:
The ENGINE START/STOP button should only be removed or inserted with the ignition in the OFF position.
If you are going to install the NoESP mod in an automatic, there are a few changes to the instructions.
Skip step 2 and 2A. There is no need to pull the center bezel or the shift handle bolts. You'll take a chance on scratching the bezel. Instead set the parking brake and shift the transmission to neutral. You can shift to neutral using the Brake/Transmission Interlock Manual Override on page 258-259 of your owners manual. Basicly pop the little access cover to the right of the shift track with a screwdriver or your fingernail, push down the pink button, and pull the shifter down to neutral. Then go to step 3. I didn't even disconnect the wires going to the top half of the console. I just laid it over in the passenger seat.

Ok I was just wandering if I needed to clear it or not. So if its not the last code that is set the dealer won't know that it was ever set? I'll just unbuckle my seatbelt tomorrow then.
I have used the key trick many times and have never had it set a code. I have checked with the preditor and no codes and NEVER had a light come on except the one telling you the system is inactive. The issue I see with the mod is you cannot remove it if you need to take it to the dealer. If you do that mod and have a ESP issue you may well have to pay for it, I would say that alone makes the mod a no go for me, do not know why anyone would want to void the warranty JMO!
I have the rt auto,,does the key trick actually shut it(esp) off totally? I heard NO it doesnt. The esp light is still amber colored with the key trick,,to me that is not totally off, and of course the bas light comes on red which to me means the brake assist is totally off.
Thank you for the write-up HWP. Did this mod before going to the track this past Wednesday. The write-up was easy to follow and everything went as planned. I found the other type of 3M taps to be a little easier to work with than the ones provided so used those instead. It also helps to have a couple of towels handy so when you're moving the platic pieces around you have somewhere soft to rest them. A set of no-mar installer tools (plastic ones like Eastwood sells) are great for projects like this where you're removing trim pieces also. Lastly I chose to secure mine to the shelf behind the climate control panel with some double-sided sticky tape (also 3M)...it's on there. Works as advertised and a nice convenience at the dragstrip where the key trick can be forgotten in the pre-stage ritual...plus the push button start remains intact, which is key (no pun )
Cool. I still love mine. Mine cuts off the ABS also. But on the track I dont worry about it. It also lets you "Drift" like a fool. Have never been into that, but, but tried it at Road Atlanta and was hooked. Draggen is still my first love..
Noesp module for 6 speed
I installed the No esp module that I ordered from No ESP, complete SRT-Style ESP Disable Solution. I can burn rubber till the cows come home on ice. Only thing thats puzzling me is if im fishtailing or on wet/dry pavement I can hear the brakes pulsating in the rear still, I know the module is working properly cause the relay clicks and all the warning lights come on(Mr. squiggles and BAS Lights). Does anyone know if the posi rear on the 09 Challenger is a true limited slip or am I hearing a BLD (Brake Lock Differential)?
You can turn it off at will. With the predator your either on or off all the time, you have to plug the predator back in to able or diable. With the module all you have to do is push the button.
Some people like esp when driving normal, not me but others do.
I hate to bring this back up after a couple months, but since you can get the ESP to turn off on the 2010 models with the optional R/T Super Track Pack, what is the difference between the two? Is there a part the super track pack has that makes this possible? Can you buy it and put it on your regular R/T?
There is a module that the SRT-8 has that make it go from partially off to fully off with the use of the button, not sure if the track pack has that or not. I believe the srt-8 module is compatable with the R/T
I realize this isnt an answer, but may help you start researching.
I had my 09 RT in for some recall crap. So I asked them to see if there was some sort of software that could be loaded from starscan or something like that to make it work like th STP's . They tried and could not get it to work. But I like the sounds of getting the module that is in the SR and STP's. I'll inquire on my next visit
Probably possible, but you need to track down each part seperatly and have them go through mutiple installs. I doubt its as easy as saying"track pack upgrage" its probably a parts research nighttmare. You may even need to find a car with and without STP and get the vins and have them do a compare side by side of the parts, lots of parts ordering hassles.
And realise that it will be a lot more expensive. The upgrade removes parts so you get credited for them, also parts is nearly double of that for the parts that come on the car when you purchas it for 30-35k, so get ready to pay. Then you are looking at $75.00/hr + for labor. This couple hundred dollar upgrade is easly thousands.
Thats one of the few places where they truely only charge the difference. Example, not real #'s Pull 4500 worth of parts off, install 4900 worth of parts, cost to customer $400.00
Done after the fact usign the same numbers, purchase the 36000 car with 4500 worth of parts, go to the service department to purchase 4900 worth of parts, service mark up makes it 5500, they feal sorry and discount it to 5000, install fee 10 horus labor 750 more, so its 5750 to add those parts that would have been a $400.00 package at time of order.
I realize those nubers are much higher than reality, but the formulas are still true.
Has anyone done this with a 2010? I'm assuming the wiring harness is identical? The NO ESP website info stops at 2009. I've emailed them, but received no reply. Maybe it's possible to to get full off ESP with the track-pack, not the super track pack? I'm assuming the Track Pack module might be the same as the Super Track Pack module and only in need of a flash.
Only blank stares from the parts dept. My dealership knows very little about this car and have no interest or enthusiasm to do any kind of research. They wanted to charge me $90.00 to activate my Daytime Running Lights after I brought the StarScan instructions and explained it was a three minute job! When I explained some dealerships provide this service for free, He said he could do it for $45. Needless to say, my DRLs are still deactivated.
when i asked my dealer they said if i had a problem and they had to check it out then they could turn them on for free ,since they would have to hookup to look for problem.next time you go to dealer just tell them your car died for no reason at a stop and while they check for any errors ask if they would please turn on your drl's,i'm sure they will, its good to have them check for any code errors anyway.good luck
I wrecked my Challenger due to ESP being on. I made a left turn just putzing along looking for an address. A jeep came flying over the crest of the hill just half a block away. I punched the throttle to get out of the way. One tire spun, the throttle retarded and there I sat. Everything goes into slow motion. I watched the smoke boil out from the jeeps front tires all the way to the crash.
If you think you wrecked because of ESP you're just plain wrong. Wrecks happen, with ESP off you still would have like just punched it, spun your tired and been slammed in to.
