Spark Plugs

According to the owners manual, the spark plugs should be replaced at 30,000 mile intervals. I presently have about 26,000 on my 5.7 auto. I stopped at the stealership yesterday to get a price. According to his magic computer, the 30,000 mile service does not include spark plug replacement. I checked again in the manual to make sure I was right. I would assume the manual knows more than the service manager and his computer. The car runs perfect, but I do wonder why, in todays engines, plugs should be replaced this frequently? And should I replace them at 30,000? My god, there's 16 of them!

I'd replace them at the 30k interval - the stock plugs are 'standard' NGK plugs -

You could go with Laser Platinum NGK's for the 5.7 (#PLZFR5B13EG) - it would mainly help keep the gap from increasing due to erosion during normal wear.

The SRT8 6.1 uses a different spec OEM plug with a longer service interval of 100k changes.

Chrysler may have gone with a less expensive 5.7 plug for lower operating costs...?

2009 R/T 27J pkg (6 speed MT) ordered 7/17/08, built 10/23/08, home on 11/13/08

Eibach Sportline Suspension
Hotchkis Sway Bars
Nitto 555 Extreme 265/50-18"
392 Cam / DS CMR tune
Hurst /G&K modded short-throw shifter
Black gauge faces, lighted needles

I remember this topic from the Charger forums, back when I had my Charger. The RTs used copper, but the V6's had platinum in them from the factory (if my memory serves me correctly). The conclusion we came to was that they must have put copper in the Hemi's because they were so easy to change; the V6, not so much. I changed the plugs in my Charger (a 5.7) and they were indeed easy peasy. I just attempted to do that on my '07 Aspen, though (another 5.7), and it took me several hours just to do the driver's side plugs. When I pulled the airbox off to do the passenger side and saw the struggle that remained, I gave up and took it to the dealer to finish up!

If they're standard plugs change them at 30K intervals.

If you upgrade to a platinum or iridium plug when you change them you can go much longer (90 - 100K) for the next plug change.

As a test I left standard plugs in my daily beater for 60K miles and they were pretty shot and the car ran poorly.

Bwahahahah dood I was crying laughing by the last sentence. I've been in shops like that before and it's amazing they get anything done but usually do great work.
