I've been combing over inventory at all of my local Dodge dealers, and I see that the majority of manual Challenger R/Ts in the area don't come optioned with STP. I really want STP, but is it just not worth it for a manual R/T?
Is the exhaust setup any different STP between the manual and automatic? Is there even a point to Performance Pages?
**EDIT**
Just watched a video on STP to educate myself and Performance Pages seems pretty cool. For $700 I feel like every Challenger R/T should have this option from the factory.
the major benefit of STP is the handling (different sway bars, springs, shocks) that will sharpen up the cornering and stability in curves.
The Performance Pages will also give you the option to tailor the Sport Mode settings for: steering assist, ESP settings, engine throttle.
for the 'normal' mode, you can change the steering assist level (engine and ESP are normal mode only in Default setup)
If you want a car that handling wise feels more sporting, get STP - on the R/T that also swaps over to the Hyperblack wheel finish as part of the package.
Plus - you'll want the 8.4 uConnect the 5.0 is okay, but much more features within the 8.4 to work with.
Yes it's definitely worth it imho, exhaust is the same regardless but you get the Hyperblack wheels, lower and stiffer suspension, better brake pads, full off ESP and of course the Performance Pages. With automatic transmission you also get paddle shifters. Previous 6-speed manual cars used to get the STP brakes and full off ESP standard but now no longer the case, you must order STP to get them. Main thing some don't like is the tires, they will usually be the Goodyear F1 summer tires, the Goodyear RSA-2 is also available in some configurations. The non-STP car would use the Firestone Firehawk. Also if getting a base R/T, you get the big rear spoiler with camera, without STP you would get a short spoiler with no camera. It's a good package and I think a bargain for $695.
EDIT: Good point Hal on the 8.4 radio, without the 8.4 you will have NO Performance Pages even with STP and many salesman will fail to know this or point that out to you.
Absolutely worth it. The car sits a little lower and handles great. The performance pages are ok, but if that was all that was in the pkg. I would forget it. It is the suspension and brakes that are important.
Good points all around guys thank you for the information. This just confirms that STP and 8.4" uConnect are going to be mandatory for me. That, plus Sound Group, should round out my requirements on the car. Blacktop looks cool but I could do without the stripes and I personally like the STP wheels better.
I agree with the others. Better handling, less body roll, and better grip. It was definitely a more sporty ride between my STP equipped 13 R/T than my 2009. But remember summer tires are included in the STP package. So if you plan on driving this car in winter conditions, it will require installing winter tires, or a set of all seasons.
Order one! It takes six weeks to complete and you get the color and options you want. I ordered my 2016 R/T + in PCP with pearl leather and only one option the STP. Just the way I wanted it. Would never have found one on a dealer lot that way.
there's a current cash allowance in my area for 2k... but it requires me to "take retail delivery by 05/02/2016." i'm really banking on these current incentives to get a reasonable deal, but i wouldn't qualify for these incentives if i ordered one, right?
Wow good call, I just noticed that. I found the same car, only 500 miles away, with no "accessories." Going to talk to my local dealer and see what we can do to get it down here.
I wanted it, but ended up not being able to find a 6 speed with STP the way i wanted it (I had to get a 15 due to specific rebates on lease programs with my negativity equity). It was basically either a car with STP and a 5 inch screen, or the 8.4 with nav and no STP. I went with the 8.4 as this is my daily driver at the end of the day. I was pretty bummed that I wasn't able to get it at first.
I've had some pretty great handling cars in the past, m3's, full suspension g37's etc. I can tell you that for a daily commute, my non STP RT with the 20's on it handles better than fine. If your daily commute involves a lot of twisties (mine doesn't) maybe it will make a difference, but for mine it means zero. If you're buying this car with the intention of road racing it, have a commute that involves a lot of curves, and/or really car about the wheels i'd say get it....otherwise....well I just said otherwise lol.
I think you made the right decision given your circumstances. You can adjust the suspension and brakes down the road, but good luck retrofitting the 8.4" inch display in. Again, I live in Florida so the twistiest roads we get are onramps.
The STP was a surprise for me. My 2016 RT Plus Shaker was the first Challenger I've ever driven, and what floored me is how much it rides and handles like an LS1 Trans Am (I've owned two). I'm used to that kind of ride out of my "fun" car, but, truth be told, had I known the STP meant the car would ride like this, I might have opted to go without.
