5 speed automatic rolls backwards on hills in drive!

My SE drives great. EXCEPT if I stop on a decent hill and take my foot off the brake the car rolls backwards in drive. I used to drive standard for years so not a teal problem, but shocked the hell out of me for an automatic car. Anyone know what's wrong? Car runs and shifts smoothly otherwise. It's great to drive in all other respects. Anyone know what the deal is? 2010 SE.

Lets see...You're on a hill and you take your foot off the brake...Is gravity normally turned off at the top of the hills in your town?

There's nothing wrong with your car. An automatic transmission is not designed to hold you at the top of a hill, your brakes are.

I've had 4 other cars that are automatics. None of the others (including the two fords I still have, roll backwards in drive while taking the foot off the brake from stopping on a hill in drive. If this is normal for this car, not an issue- but it is surprising to me.

My 2011 SE does the same thing, a little weird, but I have driven a stick for years-so no problems.

I've had other automatics that do that and some that wouldn't, nothing to worry about. You can always use the other food to hold the brake while you bring the rpms up to take off again

Yeah there may be a problem. You might try put the car in reverse at the top of the hill and see if it rolls forwards.

joelk: Check to see if you "Hill Start Assist" is not disabled. Should be in the EVIC menu.

HSA is on manual tranny only, not autos. You have two feet for a reason ;-)
