Alright guys so i have a 2012 challenger 3.6L v6. I wont have money for a v8 anytime soon so i would like to know what you guys think are some good mods for the v6 performance wise. Also if there are any mean sounding exhaust systems, i know it wont sound like a v8 but anything close will help.
search on YouTube -- lots of folks with V6 Challengers have posted videos (of, admittedly, varying quality), some 'before' and 'after' comparisons (with, in my mind, too many other factors changing as well [different camera, different environment, different microphone/camera placement, etc]), but you can get a rough idea. No video on YouTube is going to faithfully reproduce the "in-person" sound, however.
Some things you might consider, for your V6 (either the older 3.5L or the 2011+ 3.6L) for some (typically small) HP gains [note: NOT an exhaustive list!!]:
Cold Air Induction - (there's the Mopar kit, and dozens of aftermarket kits available)
Exhaust - (there's a myriad of choices and systems available)
Polished Throttle Body
Catch Can
...and, of course there's an unlimited amount of interior/exterior appearance modifications, as always, some of which may also affect performance (replacing cheap steel wheels with a quality set of wheels (usually made of lighter weight alloys offering a bit less unsprung weight, thus more efficient transfer of power from the drivetrain to the pavement, etc., etc.)
I have a 2007 300 Limited 3.5L and this is what I know, forget the catch can, I installed one on mine and the damn thing is as clean as when I bought it so don't bother, what I did do to make it sound much better was that I bought a Magnaflow CAT Back sys. however I did not like it at first so I had the muffler shop remove the muffler and straight pipe it with the Magnaflow resonators, now that made a big difference they left me the option of re-installing the muffler if I ever wanted to. My wife has the 3.6L on her 2012 300 and I was jealous, wished my 300 had this much better engine with the 8 speed!
Have had my catch can installed for over a year and every oil change nets me a decent amount of oil. Either the 3.5L is very different or you had a faulty can but i really recommend the catch can.
I like the catch can so much i plan on installing a 2nd one for my breather tube.
I have the current 3.6L and I couldn't disagree more about the catch can. I empty it every 1200 or so miles, and it's well over a quarter full. Wish I had put it on day one and not waited until 25,000+ miles.
For performance mods we have to spend a lot of money to feel any difference. You can buy an Intune for $350 and you car will feel a lot sportier with firmer shifts and better throttle response. After that you have to spend $1000+ to gain real noticeable HP. Things like Nitrous, Turbos, & Superchargers.
Things like CAI and Ported TB wont net you any HP. There are a lot of nice exhausts out there for our V6 but you wont feel any performance difference as well.
For exhaust sound you wont find anything that will sound or resemble a V8. The 3.5L's can do a good job pretending to be V8s with their single exhaust but our 3.6L's sound too high pitch, hollow, and lack a rumble to sound anything like a V8. Many people try to get our cars to sound like V8s but it always sounds awful and makes you look foolish. With aftermarket exhausts our cars sound more like a performance V6 with a high pitch sound like a ricer.
the only thing I would recommend is an intake. This is the first v6 I have ever owned and its because I now commute 55 miles each direction. I did some research with a lot of people talking about intakes and better gas mileage. So I went for it, and sure enough it does help mpg's.
Solo Performance makes an exhaust system specifically for the V6 and it sounds phenomenal based of the videos and reviews I found of it. Here's a commercial video of it:
I don't think so. Listen to the last 5 or 6 seconds when he revs in the garage. That's a weak v6. It's undeniable. Sounds just like my v6 charger did with 40 series flowmasters. Don't listen to the loudness. Listen to the bass. Thickness
If Solo could make a 3.5 or 3.6 sound like THAT ... They'd be on backorder for months at a time and they'd cost ~$2000, because people would pay that much. lol
IMHO anyone who drops the money on a full catback exhaust system for a V6 is looking too far into and spending too much expecting a performance gain, throw a different muffler on it and call it a day.
But in the end it's your money, so we can do as we please.
Well Ik some ways to make it faster and what to do to make it sound better 1st get dynomax racing bullets 2nd get a cold air intake 3rd get a manifold and throttle body port 4th they sell some afe “headers for the challenger v6” 5th a tune by hemifever or over kill and final if you want to be faster get a ripp supercharger 😎
I have a 2012 black Challenger SXT V6 and I have a catch can and Cold air intake for KN added challenger chrome door sills and a challenger chrome license plate holder. Lots of complements of how good the car looks. I barely drive it and only have 70,000 miles on it. Super clean engine bay daily driver. I wanted to keep it as stock as possible but with a little vroom and in clean condition as possible. Not worth putting an exhaust system on it as it'll never be a Hemi. I'm okay with it but it is a pretty fast V6.
Forgot to add one other thing I will be doing is adding the fog lights and changing the lighting controls on the car. The car should have come with them and it looks incomplete without them. $200 modification that can be done with an hour of your time and the dealership reprogramming the control switch. I highly recommend this modification as it will make the car look cleaner.
Has anyone that has installed the lights and then gone to the dealer been told that the dealer can't guarantee that the the new switch will work after flashing the computer. Even though everything is Mopar parts: lights switch etc?
