Need some tips on some exhaust work, I want a loud deep sound but it also won't hurt my low end of high end torque lol and to top it off I can't afford a whole exhaust system right now so a more economic option would help
What about an xpipe? Help me out

Thanks ,
J

What car are we taking about here?

Replace your stock mufflers and resonators with a single DI/DO (dual in/dual out) JFB (Jones Full Boar) muffler, and have the installer replace the removed factory exhaust pipes back to the tips with the same diameter pipe (2.25"). That will get you where you want to end up sound-wise without breaking the bank or sacrificing performance, and it will do it in a fairly straightforward and predictable manner, which is a win-win in my book.

That approach has been done by several members (myself included), all of which were very pleased with the outcome, so you can feel safe that you're not taking a gamble hoping the pros outweigh the cons with the final result. Quite the opposite actually, you will be virtually guaranteed of ending up with a better sounding car that has not lost any of its existing performance.

I am not trying to say that this approach is the absolute best way to go when upgrading the exhaust in these cars, as you can ask 10 different people how to do that and get just as many different answers probably. Besides, the "best" way to go is a relative concept and really only applicable to the person whose car has been modded, right? All I am saying with this post is that the approach I describe above is certainly one approach to consider, and it is one that I personally recommend because of my experience with it on my own car as well as the feedback I've read from others who have done this mod to theirs as well.

Blah, blah, blah, what's the TL;DR? The di/do JFB exhaust mod for the 3.6L Challenger is one of the better options you will find to improving the exhaust sound without unnecessary or complicated parts lists, labor bills, etc. Further, it has the added benefit of not sapping any of the low-end torque that is in already short supply with the Challenger's 3.6L+A5+2.65 setup in the SE/SXTs.

Do a little searching around on this forum for JFB and/or Jones Full Boar, and you will find plenty of feedback and even some sound clips to checkout. Here are a few of my own posts on the subject from over the years:

Relevant part numbers and websites for the parts:

A couple of sound clips available in this one:

(if you are nervous about opening up the *.zip attachments, that's fine. I have other examples in posts below which are not attached as zip files.)

More of the same:

Here's some non-zipped sound clips I posted for others' listening pleasure:

My response to the always-popular "drone" question:

More on the "drone" topic (or lack-of in this case):

And of course, the obligatory "If you only read ONE of my previous posts on this subject, make it this one" (but in all seriousness, that's actually true of this one):
http://www.challengertalk.com/forums/f38/jfb-muffler-255409/#post3450762

And finally, I'm going to include this one as well because it's relevant to the conversation, even if it's not 100% applicable to your scenario (3.5L w/ 2.5" vs. 3.6L w/ 2.25"):

Now, after all that, you should at least have enough info to be able to think it over before making your decision...But whatever you do, please do not take all of this as me trying to talk you into this mod so much as it's me trying to show you that you really cannot go wrong it if you decide to do it. As I said, there are other exhaust mods that may be "better" and such, but this one is at least as good as most, and definitely a little better than some.

At the very least, it's guaranteed to give you a case of perma-grin for a while!!

Good luck,
Nuke
