Can I tap into the rear speakers for my aftermarket amp?

I pulled off the rear lower deck lid liner in my trunk, and found my 2 rear speakers, and no amp or other harness. Not too surprising. But this is all I have at my disposal now, so can I tap into those rear speaker (L/R) wires in order to provide the signal to my amp (speaker-level inputs)?? Just trying to understand if these speakers are somehow also on a CAN-BUS circuit or if they are true (AC?) speaker-level signals..

Yes you can, just remember that the stock system will attenuate your rear speakers around volume level 22. So anything around that level, the signal will attenuate and the speakers powered by the amp will get quieter.

Ok good to know it's a regular speaker-level signal...

But, attenuate... HUH?? You mean if I crank it up past 22, the rears actually get quieter, not louder?????????????

Correct... if you want it done right, tap into the front speakers.

Stock head units (at least the more expensive optional ones) need to start coming with RCA outs with at LEAST 4-volts, and at LEAST two sets.

I think the problem with the front speakers is that the doors are the midrange/bass and the dash is the mid-highs, so not sure how that would work. I'm tackling the same problem and figured i could just go from the rears. This is not good.

The benefit of the fronts of course is that the bluetooth phone is only through the fronts, right?

Ok, I think I have some good news...

I just tested my stereo rear speakers. This is a 2012 SRT8 with the factory Boston setup. It does not have the upgraded HK setup.

The rear speakers do NOT attenuate after level 22, in fact they got louder and sounded good up into the 30s. I think I got as high as 36 but some distortion was present. Anyways, it sounded loud and clear with plenty of bass and mids even highs. So it is a FULL RANGE speaker, and it did NOT attenuate. If I got a phone call of course it switches to another audio u-connect channel and it plays the call at a separately-configurable volume just FYI.

So I think I will be plenty happy using the rears as speaker-level inputs into my 1000wrms Alpine amp and TypeX sub setup. Something to work on this weekend!!

Good news! I am very curious to hear how this goes over the weekend (or whenever you get to it). I ordered the pac-audio harness but will return it if your method works out. . . .

I tapped into my rear deck sub to power my amp. I can tell when the power level gets higher the subs do not hit as hard. I believe the amp is pulling power from the rear sub deck maybe due to distortion.

I got a V4 Lockpick and will wire it up with RCA outputs on it.

Good to know.....try playing it for a while at high volumes to see if it does it though. My friends Charger with Boston does it as well, but only kind of randomly.
