There is a way to do it, but you would have to set up the ipod as a hard drive too, and load the music on that way as well. The way the music is encoded for ipods makes it tough for a lot of things to copy files over from them. BUT, what I really came to say, was why would you bother? It comes with the interface cable that plugs right into the center console, and lets you control all your music from the head unit the same way you would if it was installed on the hard drive. When you start filling up the hard drive, it slows down the system a whole lot, you are much much better off connecting the ipod the way it is intended. If you've got some cds or something else, thats what you should take advantage of the hard drive for. I don't have any iPod myself, so I loaded some music using a flash drive onto the hard drive and still have some space left over. It has slowed my system down considerably.

But I think you need to unplug the Ipod, or it could drain the battery, I could be wrong though...

Yeah good call, I think the center power keeps running so just to be safe when you turn the car off unplug the ipod to keep it from drawing power.

I have learned that lesson the hard way with a dead battery.

Aw man. That's disappointing. Is it frustratingly slow? I was planning on putting about 15g of some of my favorite tunes on it in the event that I don't want to mess with taking my MP3 player. But if it's going to drive me nuts with the thing bogging down I might not after all.

Well, it just seems like it takes a lot longer to start up and occasionally while scrolling through it can take a second or two to get to the next page. Noticeably slower but nothing that will drive you crazy for the most part. Now, with my black one though, I filled that thing up almost all the way, and damn did it get slow. It would take a long time to react to anything. I have a feeling the closer I get to the limit the slower its gonna get. Another reason I'll be doing the carputer that I have planned.

Yeah...I'm not sure exactly what you have planned but my plans involve a Lockpick, A/V cables and my Archos. Is that something along the same lines you have planned with a computer? There's a guy on one of the G8 boards who is integrating an ipad to his dash. I'm not a fan of igadgets but I think it's still a pretty cool idea.

I'm going one step further than the ipad, I'm putting a mac mini and 8 inch xeneric touch screen wired up to the dash. I'm planning on having a swing mount so that I can keep the touch screen over the mygig screen, and if I need access to the mygig I swing the computer screen away toward the passenger. If that makes sense. I was thinking about the iPad but I'd rather have full functionality of a computer and since the outward appearance in the car will be no different, if anything better without such a big screen/the interface of my choosing rather than the non-multitasking iphone os. Should be pretty sweet and will cost me less than any real nice head unit. All said and done I'll be looking sub 1000 for everything involved installing it myself. Computer, screen, power supplies, and all cables ect. Just too many mods in the works haha I've gotta chose what I want to do first, I think I'll be going with wheels then exhaust then the computer and other little things, so its gonna be a little while but it will get done haha.
