Removing the shift knob

Please help. I and trying to remove the stock leather shift knob on an automatic to install the stock mopar t-shifter. the new shifter is just a set screw, but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out how to remove the original leather shifter. what am I not seeing?

Ok very simple.. The silver ring at the bottom of the shift knob holds it on. You need to use a small screw driver to push downward on the ring. (you may want to fold a rag or something on the shift plate incase you slip off, you don't want to scratch anything.) Once you release the ring the shift knob will lift right off.

Thanks a lot firehawk! that was simple. I guess i just expected another set screw or a threaded knob, not a pinch fit locking ring.
