This may be a redundant post but I wanted to post it anyway in case someone else was thinking of doing the same thing that I just tried. My 2009 R/T was not equipped with Keyless Go from the factory but I like the push button starter. I decided to order the starter push button to see if it would work on my car as it was only $16 bucks. Well, it snaps right in to the socket for the key fob but it doesn't do anything on my car. It was worth a shot as I am only out $16.

I didn't think it would work. But as you say it was worth the shot. Just to ask a stupid question (i'm full of them, so don't take offense). Was the key fob in the car with you?

Yep. It was laying in the center console. The push button has a housing shaped like the end of the key fob that snaps in the hole. If you hold the housing in your hand and push the button, 4 little pins protrude from the housing. In my car, there was nothing for them to contact so when you pressed the button nothing at all occurred.

like I said it was worth a shot. man, If that had worked you would have been a hero on this site.

I beleive you do need the correct Fob. I do know that Chrysler changed the packages so you have to have the EVIC. But the earlier build Challengers were not required to have that package. I have seen a challenger with the push button start with out the EVIc package.
You need a Passive Entry Module and a Keyless Go antenna, which both mount in the I/P. Without these parts, it definitely won't work. I believe there is an additional antenna in the trunk area. This one is a little redundant to the I/P antenna, but ensures a good signal no matter where the key is at in the interior. I do not believe the FOB matters at all, but I may be wrong. I believe it will also function without EVIC, but you'll lose the display that tells you what mode your key is in (Off/Accessory/Run). That is why they won't let you order Keyless Go without EVIC, as they don't want you to run your battery dead because you didn't know what mode you were in.
The ignition module may also be a different part number - not sure. I would ask someone @ the dealership to look it up if you're really interested in a retrofit.
