Brake dust

Ok, im a bit of a car cleaning fanatic, but at 500 miles, I have washed the rear of my wheels 4 times. I literally put 20 miles on it and there is brake dust all over the rear and fronts. Its in spots, its spread out, its everywhere. I know its a big brake setup, which I have never had, but i think 500 miles is enough to break in. Wonder if ill need new pads? Anyone know whats on the Challenger for pads, if this is normal for a big brake setup or have any other info?

Re: Brake dust

brembo brakes are known for brake dust its kinda the nature or the beast......however to stop the spotting on the rims get them off the car fast and wax the S**t out of them then your 20 bucks will cut down to 5 bucks.

not to many ppl know that wheels need wax....the wheels are more corse then paint and traps dirt so the more wax you can put on them the longer they will stay clean......and then once every couple months take the wheels off and use a Mr. Clean magic eraser (high grit sandpaper is what it really is) and clean your rims put another coat of wax on and your good to go.

but to stop the brake dust from the source high temp pads can be bought but they squill like crazy.

Re: Brake dust

Heck, I would think any wheel cleaner sprayed on [according to manufacturers instructions] should do... usually just spray on,leave for a few minutes and hose/pressure wash off ! What does your owner's manual say? Have you called dealer for suggestions ? I'm not sure what type of pads come on the Challenger, but I would think 'low dust' type. Ceramic , I think are about the lowest makers of brake dust, but do not think those are on said Challenger !

Re: Brake dust

never use wheel cleaner on your rims, all it is is a acid......will do more harm then good after a while and make them get even more dirty and harder to clean.

Re: Brake dust

The Brembo braking system on the SRT Challenger comes with slotted rotors. They are designed to "wipe clean" the brake pad and expel gases every time the brakes are applied. This minute slicing of the brake pad accounts for a lot of the brake dust.

Re: Brake dust

The Charger had (R/T Vs. SRT) different rotors & calipers than the Brembos.
I replaced the pads on the Charger with Hawk Pads because of the dust and the squeeling.
Wheels stayed much cleaner!....

I'll have to admit I was not aware or realized that wheel cleaners were acid or alkaline for that matter.Any I'd used on brother's Subaru wheels 'seemed' to work/look ok. I never noticed any harmfulness !!! I just did another brief research and found this one/same website I linked to here on another thread [about train rail dust aka Industrial fallout] and there are several links that members provided :NON acid wheel cleaners - Detailing Bliss Forum

Welcome to Brembo brakes. Live with the dust or switch out to a different pad and lose some of the awesome braking, your choice

Re: Brake dust

I put 60 miles on mine during the acceptance and brake dust was not a problem. Yes, I did test them.

I'll check back when it gets here and I put a couple hundred on it.
