Re: is a car cover worth it?

You could sew the sheets into a cover!

Just kidding, sheets would be nice and smooth against my Challengers behind!

The only question, Cotton 400 thread count or satin from my waterbed?

Tnek, I am with you there...put it in the garage, throw some sheets over it, save $250, and wait for fair skys and open roads! Ah who I am I kidding...rain or shine, day OR night, January to Decemeber I will be rolling this ride!

son of a... you guys seriously need to stop increasing my list of "things to buy" for this car.

LMAO!
Ain't it the truth? I'm already looking at cold air induction, exhaust, thinking about enclosing my side of the carport or building its own garage in the back yard.

Well i dont have a garage. So i basically asking if the car was left outside would the cover be worth the money. I mainly want it to help keep the heat down on the inside of the car, and maybe protect the paint from fading any. It gets really hot here in Mobile, AL

The sun on the paint and the heat on the interior while parked is hard on it Im sure. Mine will see plenty of sunshine and a bit of rain wont make me crazy but this car will not see a snowflake and the horrors of salt which we get varying amounts of in Indiana.
During the warm months I probably wont worry about a cover in the garage,, just when its the off season from first snow/frost till late march.

If you keep your car outside and intend to keep your car long term (who doesn't), a car cover is a must to keep it in pristine condition. Two cautions, however. Buy a quality cover (about $250-$300) and never put the cover on when the car is dirty- it will put minute scratches in the paint.

What's preventing washing of a car cover?
Mine came in a small 4'x2' box and would certainly fit in a washing machine.

If you buy a quality car cover, it can be washed in a commercial laundromat machine.

Moparsupercenter has a Challenger car cover for $265.20 plus shipping (dealers sell it for $295). I like the Challenger logo on it but you don't know its quality.

The two biggest manufacturers of car covers are Covercraft and CoverKing. CoverKing, however, does not make a cover for the Challenger. The best mid-priced custom cover from Covercraft is the Noah made by Kimberly-Clark. It has a 4-year warranty and sells for around $245. That is what I am getting. See the ratings chart on the web site below.

Covercraft Car Covers offer protection and an attractive fit in a variety of fabrics & patterns! dustop, evolution, cover craft, truck, custom,

From looking at over 25 on-line stores, I found a Noah custom cover for the Challenger that sells for only $204.61 with no shipping and no sales tax. Also they give you a free lock and storage bag worth $30. It is a great deal. The site is:

Re: is a car cover worth it?

Yeah I had decided to to with a Dustop by covercraft already. Mine will be indoors so that is the best choice.

Re: is a car cover worth it?

Yes is the short answer. I've used car covers for a dozen years - makes a big differance on how the car holds up.

I used the cover on a clean car with dry weather - weather hot or cold outside, but that was it.

Only use a cover when the car is clean - dirt is abrasive and you want to keep the cover clean (don't want dirty cover to cause scratches).

The rubber weatherstripping won't deteriorate and interior will stay cooler and keeping the UV off the rubber and interior will go a long way towards keeping those items in good shape.

Also, the heat tends to dry out and bake the adhesives that are used on the interior materials. Take a look at cars that sit out in the sun all the time - they age drastically.

The interior will stay much cooler as a bonus.

Just sold a 16 year old car (make room for the upcoming R/T) and all the paint and trim looked like new - easy sale to a private party and got the top end price I asked due to the good condition of the car.
