Detailing / Car CareWant to talk about detailing your Dodge Challenger? Are you fanatical about the care and upkeep of your Challenger? Tell us about it in here.
Today was an awful day guys. I had to work late on a high priority project at work. I come home to my father who tells me son I hit your car trying to parallel park. I was furious! The entire right rear view mirror has a giant scratch all the way to the metal. He's going to pay for it but I'm so OCD that I don't think it'll ever look the same and that bothers me to no end. Did anyone ever have a major scratch painted by a body shop and if so how'd it look afterwards.
It can turn out so a pro can't even t spot it by eye, or so bad that it stands out like a sore thumb. There are a number of factors, including skill of the painter, color of paint, and even luck.
Ike
p.s. this is a side mirror your talking about right?
Have you thought of getting both sides painted contrasting color like black? (assuming the car is not black)

Step back, breathe....you are suffering from first world problems. Don't take your Dad for granted. Afterall, who bought you all those Hot Wheels back in the day? Your car will be fine...the choice is whether you want to make it a happy memory or bad memory. And heck, you are worried about the mirror - I view those as plug and play replaceable. Since it's not part of a body panel, color matching is not a problem.

It's a scratch, it will be fine. I had to have my whole front end replaced and I think the paint match is better than factory.
My Dad passed away a few years ago. I would let him take a hammer to my car if I could just have one more hour with him. Your Dad is more important than any possession.

Take it easy before you lose it completely!
I've been a painter for decades and could do an undetectable repair on that mirror while you ate lunch.
Geez, that's probably the most forgiving and easy to match color there is.
Now...who wants to be first in line to slam autobody people,as usual?

Order a new mirror from Dodge they come factory painted and will match great!
It's a CAR fer Chrissake!!! you'll probably trade it in next year and buy something else cuz you're tired of it! You'll own tons of them in your life time!! You will only have ONE father. I would gladly give up all my worldly posessions and live on the streets in rags just to hear my father's voice for 1 second!
Thanks all for the advice. I feel much better today. I'm taking it to the body shop today (Same guys who fixed my dent). I saw the posts that say they would give up their car in a heartbeat for another day with there dad. For that I apologize for even mentioning him in the post instead of just saying my car has a huge scratch.
I'm confident in this body shop and keep an eye on this post I'll make some before and after pictures in case anyone needs work done and lives near Philadelphia.
