Re: Spots on paint after washing

Let me borrow your car for a week and I'll figure it out.

Just your typical road grime.

Re: Spots on paint after washing

Do you have hard water (i.e., a lot of minerals). If so, try the Mr. Clean car wash kit. It contains water softeners and you do not need to dry.

If you are just using a hose or bucket, after you wash the car and dry it, try spraying it with Meguiars' detail spray. It does away with any water spots and puts a mirror finish on your car.

Re: Spots on paint after washing

Always wash in shade and when cool. I start with a gas blower to get water off of spots where they come out of later and leave spots. Then I use a squeege for cars and finally wipe down with a microfiber towel. Then, if possible, I dont drive it for a few hours to again avoid water runs. A good wax regularly might help the water run off, there is a thread going on now about peoples favorites, mine is Mequiars and Zaino Brothers.

Re: Spots on paint after washing

Best practice is to prevent water spots. Always dry your car with a chamois or cotton towel to prevent them. To remove them use a very soft clay bar (Griots Garage) system and then polish and wax your car.

Re: Spots on paint after washing

I spray Meguiars's detail spray on my car after washing while the car is still wet and then dry. This prevents water spots for me.

I am out of the detail spray..that will probally work.. It did for my Charger and Motorcycle, I forgot about that..(I haven't washed and waxed in a year and half do to all my surgeries, (just used the drive through brushless car washes, forgot about the detail spray.) Going to get some today... I do all the other stuff. I am sure the detail spray will work..

Thanx Guys.. You rock

Re: Water spots

A tip I picked up somewhere is to not use the forceful spray to do your final rinse. What you want is free flowing water from the hose and use it to flow over the car and hopefully "sheet" off as much water as possible. Any water that is left is left in bigger spots/puddles that won't dry before you can get to them with a towel of your choice to dry them. I use 100% USA cotton towels.

Other tips such as not washing in sun etc. also apply...

Re: Spots on paint after washing

I have a stack of Orange 100% cotton towels that are only used on Orange cars.

My water at the house is very hard. I go to the brushless and then dry her there.
