In short, how concerned are you about its status as a "limited edition" and its future resale value / collectors value, versus enjoying it now?

Re: 08 as Daily Driver or Weekender?

I am driving it till the wheels fall off... We only get afew days a year of snow (usually) in southern Colorado. When we do its bad. So then it will sit in the garage. Otherwise, I will drive year around, everyday...

I heard a saying one in reference storing collector cars and using them for limited driving:

' Why should I buy a car to have someone else drive it after I am dead?"

Re: 08 as Daily Driver or Weekender?

I don't think I'll ever buy a car expecting it to be a good investment...

I live in California which means we have NO down time in the year... Every season is driving season here...

I will be driving it to work and EVERYWHERE else.

I've already given my boss a heads up and told him I'll be taking one or two weeks off when my car gets here to drive and drive. I'll give her a good break in.

Re: 08 as Daily Driver or Weekender?

6400 is not all that rare or limited, so I'll be driving an '09 six-speed but I'll own a cheep beater for lousy weather days.

Re: 08 as Daily Driver or Weekender?

If and when I'm lucky enough to own an 09, it'll actually split time with my 5.7 Ram 1500. Although I joke about it to my friends, the wife and "work girlfriends" don't like having to climb in the truck with dresses and heels.

I can't wait to relive my high school days when my life revolved around my '74 Challenger....

Re: 08 as Daily Driver or Weekender?

09\rt brought up a point I made to someone the other day. If I wanted to make money, I would place my 45-50k into a CD or mutual fun and hope for 3-7% retunrn or more on my investment rather then hope my car becomes a rare desireable.

Thats unlikely with any car, even a possible future collectors item. I think about the Dodge Daytona now worth about 300k or the similar Superbird at about 150k in mint, perfect condition. The Daytona had a high sticker price of almost 5,000 dollars in 1970. It has been almost 40 years now. I would have rather driven it, rebuilt it a few times and put 5k into investments somewhere else on the side. Of course, this is a VERY extreme case of car value, as we all know many classic cars can usually be had for 20-40k in restored condition meaning you would have done better investing some money then getting a car and enjoying it. So, do both, or if you have no choice, drive it like you stole it, you cant take it with you and all those corny sayings.

Oh, me? I work at home and have 5 car, so driving my cars only a few thousand miles a year each is easy because of rain and snow. Challenger does have 1200 on it though

Re: 08 as Daily Driver or Weekender?

Cars are always a very risky investment ..Not to be really thought of as that as well.

See picture below, of my drive to work. Every 3 weeks to work, then 3 weeks home return ride.
All my car miles are for fun. I have 3 vehicles, & a bike, and put over 60,000 kms / year on them for fun !!
My Challenger will be my DD, but not in the winter.
