Re: '09 Challenger R/T Gathered Specs / Equipment & Info Related
Yea mushier probably was a bit too harsh, but it is a bit disappointing that the Challenger isn't second only to the Viper amongst Dodge performance vehicles.
I've noticed that people are wondering about competing with the new Camaro. If the Camaro is about the same size/weight as the Mustang or previous GTO, then the Challenger isn't going to be in the same league given it's size/weight disadvantage. An SRT would match the standard bowtie/blue oval offerings, but the R/T would be struggling. That sucks. Ragamuffin, Yup the orig Challengers were definitely more fun than the B Body cars of the day. And they held their own against the competition too, torsion bars or not. Especially the 340 powered cars with front and rear sway bars.....made for a good time on a twisty road. ![]()

The 2009 Challenger SRT8 may come in a new special color and not Hemi Orange. |

According to Cuda340's quote :
Allpar update: We were just informed that the interior for 2009 will be black only; the seats in the R/T and the base model are the same, both offered in both cloth and leather (and they look similar). The design is a ribbing in the seat area with bolsters similar to the R/T package on the Charger. The cluster trim panels and center stack trim have been updated for the 2009 model year, and R/T models have Hemi badging on the side of the hood (in the same style as the SRT’s 6.1L HEMI writing). A few R/Ts have regular round exhaust pipes; others are squarish. Meanwhile, the manual shifter has a pistol-grip design as in the concept, with teh boot taking up the same space as the automatic; Reverse is all the way to the right, above sixth, with a gate from sixth gear so you go into sixth and then up to get to Reverse (it uses a modified Viper-style Tremec manual transmission). The first 2009s will apparently be built on April 14.

According to JALOPNIK'S
Over The Back Fence: 2009 Dodge Challenger Production Details Emerge, You Want A Shaker Hood With That? Interestingly, the Challenger RT is supposed to get all of the color options and a shaker hood for those that want a classic RT look.

Re: '09 Challenger R/T Gathered Specs / Equipment & Info Related
According to a very reliable/accurate information provider and ALLPAR member :
Let's talk about the power steering system in the Challenger, specifically in the R/T manual version... "Thanks to the variable displacement mechanism and the relief valve, a sharp cut of the power consumption of the power steering oil pump is realized. By using a variable displacement vane pump for the automotive power steering system, it will be able to save fuel and eliminate the oil cooling system, as oil temperature does not increase when compared to a conventional pump, due to a non surplus flow..." - SAE.org Any Allparians out there know much about "Variable Displacement Power Steering" systems? I know the technology has been around for awhile, but has Chrysler ever used it in any of their vehicles?
The R/T with its no GG Tax (Gaz Guzzler) and its projected HPs of at least 380HP which is assured (some say even more 385-390) seems very attractive when you consider its potentialy relatively close numbers compared with the SRT8 according to ALLPAR forum member :
How much slower will the 5.7 R/T be in the 1/4 mile? Using an on-line drag race calculator, I came up with these approximations: 6.1 SRT= 12.45 sec. @ 109.47 mph 5.7 R/T= 12.90 sec. [at]105.40 mph A difference of .5 sec. and 4 mph Question- Does this sway any one on the fence who was thinking of buying the SRT in 2009? http://www.turbofast.com.au/Drag.html Seeing these numbers , reinforces my desire a lot for the R/T , especially with gaz prices continually rising ! Now some rumors floating around that the '09 R/T 5.7 is to be priced at MSRP $32,500 . What do you think , is this acceptable - knowing what we all know about the R/T so far ?

Given that you can land a Mustang GT for several thousand less I think they are creating their own competition problem. Will be curious to see what the Camaro comes in at. Really, what's the argument in favor of spending 5k more? it gets 80 or so more horsepower, yupp that's really worth 5 grand or so, especially when gas hits 4 bucks a gallon. Was the price unexpected: no, at least not by me.
