General Challenger DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the Dodge Challenger. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
I was tempted to go to the dark side by the new 5.0. The thing that stopped me was the 100 to 1 ratio of mustangs to challengers around the Indy area. And, on street nights here, my 392 hasnt lost to a non-supercharged mustang yet, not even a couple 5.0s that were modded. I do like the new mustangs, but usually, me and my brother are the only challengers on street night vs 30 or more mustangs.
I hear ya, I was looking at 5.0 track pack cars, you can get them for the very low $30s, a lot of car and performance for the money. It was the wife that finally said don't get a Mustang, they are everywhere and it's mostly high school kids driving them(her generalization) but once I knew I could get a Challenger SRT8 for $10k more, and I realized just how much more car it was, it became a no-brainer. This Challenger feels a little faster than the 5.0 Track Pack I drove, but it's pretty close. It definitely feels like a better car, just WAY more substantial and everything about the interior and ride quality seems nicer.

Dont be too hard on yourself about the soccer mom, the 5.0 is quicker than an R/T stock, but not a 392. I raced a 5.0 with my M10, we both had a rolling start and I stayed right at his rear bumper up to 100 mph before he started to pull away, so I think I did OK considering Im heavier. Mine looks way better than a shitstang any day. Tuning it should make the difference, but remember the 5.0's can do the same. Try ripping out the seats and shave a couple hundred pounds, its the weight to HP that kills you anyway. Put your chally on a road race course and you'll show a 5.0 your grille all the way around; fords still using ancient suspension technology you see.
Get some practice, Street races are different than at the track. You don't have much time to get ready at the red light sometimes it's on the fly you look over and it's On in the next lane.

Slap on a S/C and some headers and walk the mustang home
well Mustang owner could do the same as well and then...well...back to square one

I would rather be in a challenger and lose then be a owner of a mustang 5.0 and win. At the end of the day you still go home in a challenger. My 2 cents.
