2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 not sold out

2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 not sold out
July10

Despite early reports from Dodge that all 6,400 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8s were pre-sold before they even rolled off production lines, multiple U.S. dealers have numerous examples of the born-again muscle car in stock.

In what appears to be another case of dealer profiteering due to the relatively low production run of the car, it turns out about a quarter of the total production run was pre-ordered by dealers, said Chrysler spokesperson Curtrise Garner. One dealership in Michigan will have 19 Challengers for sale, with two on the lot, say Detroit News reports. Dick Huvaere’s Richmond Chrysler Jeep Dodge only sold one of its 19 SRT-8s it has on order, which is probably due to the near $7,000 premium one of the cars is advertised for on the dealer’s website.

“We’re negotiating each price with the individual customer,” said the dealer’s General Manager, Jim Simpson in the report. “We’re not getting a huge amount over sticker.”

Despite customer interest, Simpson did not take preorders for the new muscle car, saying they usually result in antsy customers pestering staff for updates along with cancellations when the hype does not match up with reality or the wait is too long.

Meantime, a Florida dealer who pre-sold the car can’t keep any on the lot. Naples Dodge sold all eight Challengers that it was allotted before customers laid eyes on their cars.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 not sold out

I think they call this being a smart consumer. If customers refuse to pay over sticker, the dealers will be stuck with the cars. I hope my local dealership gets screwed over with their markup. They are wanting $70K each for the two that they have coming in sometime this month. I will never buy any car from them!!!

You think "Dick" at Richmond Dodge is going to be able to sell his other 18 SRTs at over MSRP. Dick might be having a sale in the next 60 days.

i agree with you scotty. Thats what i have said all along. Not to mention, the economy is upside down right now. Had the car came out 3 years ago, i think it would be a different story. Its hard enough for most people to pay MSRP, much less some markup charged by the dealer. I knew this would happen

Exactly, LSD and a 6 speed are what is keeping me from getting the stray 08's that keep popping up

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 not sold out

You guys are stronger than me LOL. I couldn't do it. If I saw a stray one, and didn't have mine I'd for sure pick one up.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 not sold out

Just came back from a dodge dealer here in Montrose CO. They wanted 25,000. over the MSRP of 41,000. Total before tax and tags 66,000. They did let me touch it though. His excuse was that it is a number car and Jay L. bought the number 1 out of production for 350,000. I said that's great but the wife and I quickly walked out.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 not sold out

There's a black one at the dealership in Lompoc, CA with a 25K dealer markup still available. I went in looked at it, and the Salesmanager asked me if he should draw up the paperwork, and I laughed at him and walked out. Aholes. Can't wait to pay $42K rather than $66K in a few months.
