Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 not sold out

These markup prices will come down, especially if the 09s start rolling in. I know which one I'd choose once the 09s are here. They can keep the dash plaque.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 not sold out

Chrysler and the dealers are out of touch...

The Challenger should have been released 5 years ago when the muscle car restoration market was hot -- oh well, you know the early bird gets the worm story.

As far as dealers... the dealer markup issue would vaporize if Chrysler lowered prices and started selling SRTs online through their own centralized company owned distribution networks -- build to order with sufficient lead time.

Chysler needs to take control of their destiny on performance vehicles and offer the consumer purchase and warranty options other than through dealers.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 not sold out

yea, but im curious as to when that will happen. I assume that once people realize they can get an 09 with a 6speed, the 08's value will drop drastically. Not to mention the upgraded rear axle

Geee, it's a good thing these dealers don't know about Challengertalk.com; they just might "Schmarten Up" and start selling : could be good for business you know !!!

Once September rolls around, the 08s will just be leftovers which will have to be moved to make room for the truckloads of 09s. Maybe some dealers will cling to the fantasy that a rich Rumpelstiltskin will roll in and pay a premium for a 2008 model with a dash plaque and carbon fiber stripes. IMO those days are fast coming to a close. There is a dealer near me that has six 08s, and is looking for 20k over sticker. Good luck with that....

These dealers are no different than ticket scalpers. If demand is perceived as strong, they'll demand (and get) premium prices. Once game time rolls around and they're still holding tickets, they'll drop the price just to move them.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 not sold out

Well, I hope they can choke on them as I just walked away from the one that I had on order since Dec. 3rd. I had ordered it before pricing was released and had agreed on paying sticker. Unfortunately could not get anything in writing other than my order sheet and the deposit I gave them.

I got there on Wednesday and there it was with my name on the sticker. They then proceeded to tell me that it will be $5,000 over sticker and I walked away.

Dodge City in McKinney, TX is who I dealt with and have purchased three vehicles from them in the past. I will not purchase from this dealership ever again and hope that others do the same.

I did not trust them being honest about it as they started to play games about the car back in January.

It looks like I will be ordering mine from Fred Garza or Bob Fredericks, they sound like the people to trust.

Despite early reports from Dodge that all 6,400 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8s were pre-sold before they even rolled off production lines, multiple U.S. dealers have numerous examples of the born-again muscle car in stock.

In what appears to be another case of dealer profiteering due to the relatively low production run of the car, it turns out about a quarter of the total production run was pre-ordered by dealers, said Chrysler spokesperson Curtrise Garner. One dealership in Michigan will have 19 Challengers for sale, with two on the lot, say Detroit News reports. Dick Huvaere’s Richmond Chrysler Jeep Dodge only sold one of its 19 SRT-8s it has on order, which is probably due to the near $7,000 premium one of the cars is advertised for on the dealer’s website.

“We’re negotiating each price with the individual customer,” said the dealer’s General Manager, Jim Simpson in the report. “We’re not getting a huge amount over sticker.”

Despite customer interest, Simpson did not take preorders for the new muscle car, saying they usually result in antsy customers pestering staff for updates along with cancellations when the hype does not match up with reality or the wait is too long.

Meantime, a Florida dealer who pre-sold the car can’t keep any on the lot. Naples Dodge sold all eight Challengers that it was allotted before customers laid eyes on their cars.

Based on this story, it looks like the dealers' strategy and greed are going to backfire on them big time. They saw the high demand in Dec. and decided to take 25% of the order action for themselves with dreams of huge profits. They were banking on that customer segment that just had to have the first edition. However, they grossly miscalculated, what has turned out to be, the high demand for a 6 spd and LSD and are now likely to see their profit dreams evaporate. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.
