Dodge is just protecting itself. You get a LIFETIME powertrain warranty on the 5.7 (only a 3-year on the 6.1). They just want to make sure that you don't blow the engine.

Y-ahhh, that is not the way a "Customer Oriented" New Chrysler Corp. ought to be doing things : but see, the dealers/salespeople "love" that. Why ? I just read part of a 10 step story about how dealers/salesperson like that because it pumps up the final price , which also pumps up that salesperson's commission !! I also, seem to think or recollect someone saying that it's more cost effective [for Chrysler in this case] to have packages/group options to make the assembly line smoother and/or quicker. It would be nice if the order forms were more "retro" like the new Challenger/the good old days ; where a customer can and should be able to order their car exactly as they want it: not how some CEO/COO/or Board of Directors wants !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 2009 Challenger Buyers Guide

The price of the car has no bearing on the salesperson's commission. Most are paid on the profit off the sale, not the selling price. However, a dealer does get more holdback on a more expensive car. And if the car is selling at MSRP, there is a bit more profit in the extra options.

The big thing, as you say, is that it makes the ordering process and assembly line work easier, since there are not as many different variations. But if Mini Cooper can do it, why not Chrysler?
