2011 Dodge Challenger - predicted features and changes

Exclusive information for ChallengerTalk.com

Dual stripes, full body (SRT)
"392" badges for hood (SRT)
Sounds very cool!

Looking forward to seeing the first Photoshops soon. :yumyum:

GG Tax - yes (SRT)

--RS--
Are we sure about this, RS? I know you said the performance (and, I assume the mileage) numbers aren't known until after final testing. And I know the numbers quoted at Allpar are speculative. But if Allpar is even close to right then the new 6.4L SRT8 would get better mileage than my R/T. If so, then it wouldn't have a Gas Guzzler Tax, right? :scratchhead:

*OR* are you saying that, as testing continues, they won't stop upping performance until they've dropped mileage into the GGT area? :browsmiley:

I could get behind that line of thinking!

Thanks for all the info, RS!

Allpar is showing for City/Hwy mileage:

R/T Manual --- Current 15/24 --- Predicted 15/25
R/T Auto ----- Current 16/23 --- Predicted 16/24

SRT8 --------- Current 00/00 -- Predicted 18/24

EPA figures - 2010 Challenger:

R/T Manual --- Current 15/24
R/T Auto ----- Current 16/25

SRT8 Manual -- Current 14/22
SRT8 Auto ---- Current 13/19

Allpar's chart shows the wrong figures for the R/T auto mileage. Looking at their predictions, they have 18/24 for the SRT. If those numbers were to be correct, there would have to be a mileage increase of 4-5 mpg city and 2-5 mpg hwy vs the current SRT. That works out to a 30% increase in city mileage which seems extremely unlikely.

In order to eliminate the GG tax altogether it would take an increase of +1.5 combined mpg for the manual and +3 combined mpg for for the automatic. Quite a feat to achieve with a larger engine, and MDS only helps a little in real world improvements. Future transmissions and other tweaks may offer enough mileage improvements to eliminate the GG tax.

The EPA lists the SRT as having 21.1 combined for the manual, and 19.7 combined for the automatic, which doesn't really jive with EPA's city/hwy numbers listed above. How does 13/19 equate to a combined 19.7?

Regardless, the information I saw, while still showing blank spots for the 2011 Challenger EPA ratings, clearly references a GGTAX in the footnotes, at least at this point in time.

#84 ·
If the transmission for the autos is still the 5-speed NAG1 (W5A580), this means that the max torque input would have to be less than 580 newton meters or 427 ft/lbs of torque to be in the safe margin correct?

#93 ·
**In progress - more info to be added as it becomes available **

Interior changes (minimal):

HVAC with auto mode, restyled buttons
Driver's seat quick release for rear seat access

--RS--
Ok, now I feel like I jumped a little too soon. The auto CC is a nice to have (in fact, I'm surprised at how much I don't miss it, but it's nice), but the rear seat access on the driver's side would be absolutely clutch.

#94 ·
Yeah, that's a minor disappointment with the current Challenger - the lack of automatic temperature control in the climate system. My 2008 VW, which retailed for only $16,500 with no options, came with "Climatic" - which you just set the dial for the desired temperature and the climate system cycles from heating to A/C or whatever, to maintain the desired cabin conditions.

Although, the current climate system is definitely retro.

#236 ·
I'm sure we will be able to install this mod in the '08-'10 model years...someone here is just waiting for them to release the '11 and I bet dollars to donuts it will be posted in no time flat...really, how difficult could it be? A full seat swap out is the worst case scenario...I'm up for the challenge...no pun intended!

Hell yeah it does:smoker:

#104 ·
If the prices are accurate I'll stand by my statement that Dodge doesn't really care to sell too many of these each year.

Not sure why but it seems that way. Unless the new 392 is supercharged that's a bit much.

A 2011 GT500 is $49,495 MSRP delivered.

#107 ·
A two-thousand dollar price increase across the board will kill Challenger R/T sales, especially when you consider all the electronic goodies like Launch Control and mechanical stuff like Brembo brakes, that are offered on the Camaro SS - a car BTW that is already less money than the current 2010 R/T.

This price increase will NOT help SRT8, or SE sales either, although at least they're offering bigger engines in those models for the price increase. The R/T, however, gets nothing for $2000 more. Why does Chrysler think anyone will buy a 2011 R/T?

#109 ·
It appears that if you order leather, then the 20-inch wheels are a required "option" (yes, that's definitely an oximoron), but the cost of the electronics convenience package has been reduced. So a 2011 vs 2010 price 28J R/T with ECP appears to be $36,925 vs $36,085 or $840 more. If you want the 20-inch wheels then it's not quite as bad. If you don't want the 20-inch wheels but want leather, you're hosed (if this info is accurate). I'm planning on buying a 28J R/T in the next six months or so, but don't want the 20-inch wheels. I'm now thinking about ordering sooner (2010 model) rather than later (2011 model).

Ouch, I think Ma MOPAR is using some strange type of reverse psychology...setting the price so high that very few people will want one, there by exuding "exclusivity". Or either they are trying to get out of the Muscle Car class and compete with the M5's and A6's of the world (perhaps some old Mercedes thinking still left over).
I think I got the answer...Chrysler is going to put a Fiat 500 in the trunk!

What makes sense is the "Porsche" sales model - keep the core price of the car under control, but offer alot (and I mean ALOT) of factory customization options and let the buyers decide what they want and what they want to pay for. That's how Chrysler can make markup profits on these cars, while keep the cost entry barrier competitive.

I really hope they do a PCP.... but then I'd be in such a quandary about what to do with my current car to make it trade-in-able or something.... decisions!!!

At least I have some factory headers and Cat's I can put back on her... just would have to modify the exhaust to bolt up to it... :) Patience....
