Id like to see all colors for a model year offered all year for all models... restricting colors based on trim just somehow feels unamerican
A G R E E ! I hate all this late availability on the different colors. You have to order the color and hope you like it. I just don't get it!

#517 ·
"Jazz Blue", if it looks anything like the depictions now being shown on many dealer sites, is not at all appealing to me. It looks like a teal color more suitable for a '95 Grand Marquis.

I was planning to order a '13 R/T in Blue Streak Pearl early next year. Now I guess it's back to the drawing board! If they offered the "Deep Cherry Red" color found on some of the trucks and Jeeps, that would be an easy second choice for me. Maybe some additional choices will pop up mid-year.

#519 ·
I completely agree. The Jazz blue shown on the vehicle avatars that some dealers are posting up is horrendous. However, I think they may just be reused from the b5 days just to put something there since chrysler hasn't posted the actual color yet.

According to our very own ResumeSpeed and backed up here: 2013 Chrysler Color Codes - Challenger Paint Cross-Reference

Jazz Blue should be a much darker color than is shown on dealer photos.

Will the real Jazz Blue please stand up...!!! Is the Chrysler color palette misrepresenting it, or the dealer sites? The dealer sites show that it's similar to Ford's Grabber Blue or possibly a Petty Blue Pearl kind of color. Chrysler's color sheet shows it as a midnight blue.

What do I care, I'm getting the best color...
Blue Streak right? I wish I had the money now for a down payment because I think Blue Streak is the best! If Jazz Blue turns out to be blah, I'll just go with the old standby Pitch Black or the Phantom Black Tri-coat. Or maybe even TorRed :D

every kind of company does this...

They add some quality/feature/etc that they KNOW is really not that important to the functionality of the product, but will appeal to the majority of interested parties...

and they put this feature ONLY on the higher end versions of the product.

Look at TV's...which will have very similar TV's, but only the high end version of a model will come with Picture-in-Picture...

or something as simple as a Toaster brand, where the model that's $40 more than all the others, may have a few nifty feature, but the real kicker is...when you press down the lever, it has a blue led light around the lever.

This has NOTHING to do with how well the toaster works. But it's pretty...and you ask ANY company, and they'll tell you, something like that will vastly increase their sales on the higher end models.

Consumer's, in general, are rather impulsive by nature. And it's a fact that they're also drawn to "pretty lights". (and as much as we'd like to think this doesn't apply to big purchases like cars or houses...in reality, it still does)

So of course most car companies will reserve the more interesting colors for the higher trim levels.

From a business standpoint, it makes perfect sense to me...

If I am not mistaken all high impact colors are only avail on the RT classic and SRT8s right? With the exception of TorRed which was avail on all '09 and '10s.

#538 · (Edited)
HO, B5Blue, DY, PCP, FF, TO, GWE, and Stinger Yellow are all high impact colors exclusive to the R/T Classic and SRT. I personally like it this way because, when I see one, I immediately know they're all V8 equipped, higher end models. If all three models had every color available to them, they'd pretty much look the same from a distance.
SE owners will respond, "big deal, that's the way it should be." On the other hand, most R/T and SRT owners will want their rides to reflect exclusivity. It's just a question of the have nots wanting to be haves and vice versa.
Take any other car model out there, and tell me where you're more impressed with the bottom of the line model, versus the top. If someone spends double the money for their car over the next guy, I'm not against them having colors or other options exclusive to their car.
I guess I'm guilty of a "have perspective."

Got a VOTS email today, my car went from "In Production" yesterday straight through to "Shipment" today! Hopefully the shipping won't take more than a couple of weeks... the wife and I are going to Ireland for 2 weeks in early September, and my biggest fear was always that the car will show up just in time for me to turn around and leave the country without getting to play with it!

#555 · (Edited)
What is your source that Dodge officially refers to them as "Buzz" colors and uses that term?

Tried Googling it and all I came up with is your posts stating that.
You can refer to the "History Channel", I believe it was on approximately 1-1/2 years ago, show titled "Ultimate Factory Builds", where they featured the Challenger being built. The actual Chrysler spokesman called them "BUZZ" colors. That is as "OFFICIAL" as it gets.

Do you agree???

#557 ·
Who gives a F what they are called?
Dodge - you are FREAKING IDIOTS for not offering whatever these colors are called on a more widespread basis. Repeat, FREAKING IDIOTS!!! Such a fine example of self limiting your market share! For a lot of people it matters more than anything, FACT!

#558 ·
Say what you will and some will agree with you. However, the majority of the purchasers of these 'BUZZ' colored cars want it that way. They don't want to see that color all of the time. Some Hemi Orange and PCP owners are quite upset at the fact that those colors will return in 2013. They like the fact that so few are the color that they bought. Heck, some people want the Challenger production ended so their car is more exclusive unlike seeing Mustangs and Camaros on every corner.

#562 ·
Yep, I have seen Dodge call it buzz colo(u)rs more than High Impact Colo(u)rs.

RRHemi said:
Getting upset over that is ridiculous! If Dodge is caving to that pressure they are making a mistake. They should be in the business of building and selling cars. Quantity creates profits, profits allows business to expand development, development will deliver the GT500/ZL1 fighter. Think big picture!
Still pissed I couldn't get a B5 blue car! I really like the "High Impact" colors but wouldn't own one myself. Even if offered without restriction they aren't for everyone.
They are in business to build and sell cars. Quantity does not create profit, it creates variable cost. Fiat knows what they are doing. The Dart, 300, Charger, and Jeep lineup is their "for the masses" vehicles, "Bread and butter." So chill out Chrysler is in good hands.

Having seen Fiat's performance to date, I would have to agree with your statement(s.)

Quantity increases profits. Quantity reduces variable costs via economies of scale. If a particular vehicle is not creating profits it could potentially receive less R&D money for upgrades and even get the ax once it's numbers fall too far. Remember the Magnum? Find someone else to tell to "chill out."
I respectfully disagree with your explanation. An increase in quantity does not guarantee profits, it opens the door for dis-economies of scale. Variable cost (VC) is directly related to quantity of output (QO). If QO increases, so does VC. If QO decreases, so does VC. If QO is stagnant, so is VC. You are thinking of fixed cost, which is not affected by an increase of QO via economies of scales.

#567 ·
If output goes up fixed costs per unit go down, since they are spread across more units. If Chrysler is buying say, sheet metal for fenders, they will get a better price break if they are buying higher quantity. Wouldn't this lower variable costs or do both factors affect fixed costs?

#570 ·
What you are referring to is a statement from 2009, and yes, everyone was referring to them in their 1970's term, "High Impact", but since then, as in the Ultimate Factory Build: Challenger" Dodge has since referred to these colors as BUZZ COLORS.

So, is Green With Envy really Snakeskin Green or visa-versa ... It really depends on which side of the fence you were born on. As for me, I just go with the flow what Dodge calls them. And that is what my original statement is based on.

The net cost per unit will go down -- fixed cost will stay the same if output goes up due to economies of scale. Fixed cost is usually comprised of overhead, rent, loans, insurance, etc. So if fixed cost goes down that means a company is laying off employees or stopped paying rent.

A better example (very hypothetically speaking/typing) is that it costs Chrysler $1,000,000 to produce 1,000,000 cars per year (that's $1.00 per car). This $1,000,000 includes $500,000 in fixed cost ($0.50 per car). Fixed cost includes overhead, insurance, marketing expense, rent. As well as $500,000 in Variable cost (raw materials, delivery of said product, labor directly involve with the product).

Now lets say next year Chrysler decides to produce 2,000,000 cars. The Variable cost will increase because the number of cars has increased. Thus, variable cost rises from $500,000 to $1,000,000 (2,000,000 X $0.50 = $1,000,000). Fixed cost will not change regardless of the number of cars produced, thus it stays at $500,000.

The total cost to produce 2,000,000 cars will rise to $1,500,000 and the cost per car will fall to $0.75 ($1,500,000/2,000,000 cars). Because the fixed costs have been spread over a larger number of cars, the net cost per car will decline from $1.00 to $0.75.

Sorry guys that me and RRHemi thread jacked -- it was not intentional. :bigthumb:
