Thanks Bernie for the great post!!
A super pic of the Granite Crystal Metallic & other colors!
Confirms my choice of a dark dark charcoal gray!

On the Radar Red interior.. My order code is RL - Leather Trimmed Bucket Seats DR - Dk Slate Gray/Radar Red.
I hope it comes as pictured, with the gray middle section in the rear seats for RLDR, as compared to the SRT ULDR which shows ALL red backseat..
Any confirmation that RLDR will definitely have the gray middle section & ULDR will be ALL red?

That was an interesting, helpful PDF. Thanks!

Hope the graphic on the parking sensors is correct. The depicted sensor path makes it look like the sensor placement will be underneath a rear lip, out of sight. If still effective with that placement, that's much better than the usual very visible bullet hole-like sensors (sometimes containing what looks like large bolt heads) seen on other cars. Still would rather have a factory rear camera option, but this the sensor design is promising.

Will be interesting to see what those "Black Vapor" wheels look like on the SRT8 with various colors. On their own, I don't care for them compared to the original SRT8 wheels. Look like larger versions of the VW Jetta rims from the past five years.

From the hints dropped by RS so far, it sounds like we'll see the following colors released with the 6.2 SC engine "Hemi Orange, High Performance Red and Sublime". Based on RS saying "HEMI ORANGE (Late April 2013)" and the previously listed colors "are all scheduled to launch within a one-month span. " that would mean you'd see the 6.2 SC ESC engine option coming out March-May time frame 2013.

JUST Updated on ALLPAR.com, last week it stated the Challenger would live through 2015 or 2016 Model year...

· Challenger is to run through model year 2014 with minimal changes, ending production in the summer of 2014. The supercharged 6.2 Hemi is now thought to be arriving in 2014-15.
· Charger and 300C: There were comments some time ago about Charger getting a bit smaller in the next generation. It’s possible Chrysler will choose to keep Charger “as is” and make 300C a front wheel drive large family car with an emphasis on space and comfort. (This is not based on any inside information, but on disclosures that a large FWD car was being considered, and on the need to differentiate models more. It also seems that rear wheel drive might be a Dodge differentiator with a confirmed Dodge midsize rear-driver.)

I went into the dealer today to talk about a jeep, and also inquired about trading my challenger in at the end of 2013 model year for a SC 6.2. The salesman mentioned that the SC for the 6.2 will only gain about 50-80 HP over the 392. He couldn't remember what the manager told him, but that it was substantially less than shelby or zl1. Somewhere in the 550HP range I would guess. I don't know, but if we could tune our 392s, and do a few mods we could probably turn that out. I couldn't believe it when I checked weight on my 4 door tacoma...and it came out less than my challenger...WOW

If the SC 6.2 is only gonna put out 80HP more than the 392...I may just keep it...unless the cost is basically the same...to around 50K.

That's something I am interested in finding out as well. I remember reading somewhere that only 4 colors are available to order at the moment?

Here are the production dates I have for some of the 2013 colors like always some dates may change.

  • Jazz Blue Pearl Coat (PBX) - 09/03/12
  • Billet Metallic Clear Coat (PSC) - 09/17/12
  • Phantom Black Tri-Coat Pearl (PXT) - 11/12/12
  • Plum Crazy Pearl Coat (PHG) - 02/04/13
  • Hemi Orange Pearl Coat (PLC) - 04/29/13
  • High Performance Red Clear Coat (PR3) - 05/06/13
  • Sublime Metallic Clear Coat (PFB) - 05/27/13
So it is official then that they will be spraying sublime paint? That brochure pdf doesn't show anything about high impact colors, so I am curious as to where this info came from

2013 looks to be an exciting year. At this point, it is still not enough to justify what would be at least a 15K upgrade over what my car is worth. Waiting to see what 2014 brings. I sat in a 2012 yesterday and was impressed with the new steering wheel and some of the better materials. BUT, interior still is unimpressive (boring) when compared to the rest of the Chrysler line. It's been two years now since Chrysler revamped all the interiors. The Challenger only got a few improvements in this realm rather than an overhaul. What are they waiting for? When the S/C comes out coupled with a new interior, count me in. Good job on the colors though, Dodge.

#310 ·
Last Nov. I traded my 2010 R/T for a 2012 just because of the upgrades and I'm not at all sorry. To me it feels like a much more refined car. Concerning the interior, I think the more simple look was in keeping with the original design and purpose. Personally, I think the dash pad itself is an excellent modern version. The only thing that really bugs me about the interior is the generic center console. I think the concept car had a much better modern interpretation of the original.

#312 ·
You're right. I had a 1974 Challenger. The dash was vinyl but all the other interior trim pieces were hard plastic. The glove box was made of cardboard as was the package tray (just coated in a thin vinyl material) and my favorite, the windshield washer was not electrically operated but rather there was a plunger located at the far left of the driver's foot well. If you wanted to wash your windshield you had to literally stomp on the plunger on the floor repeatedly to pump washer fluid to the windshield.

#314 ·
On the interior... I agree... we are spoiled... anymore every automaker tried to outdo the other to win the sale.

As far as the Challenger interior redo is concerned. My guess is the sales volume is not high enough to justify the huge expense to redo it. It is still much better than the newer Mustang interior and light years ahead of the Camaro interior if ya ask me. Could it be better, Yes, am I content with it as is, yes.

#315 ·
In terms of styling, the Camaro and Mustang interiors win hands down. The Mustang's interior quality is better than the Challenger's IMO, while the Challenger's quality is better than the Camaro's, at least until 2012. And yes, old muscle cars' interiors were junk compared to the new ones. That said, the Challenger's interior is now one of the most dated in the entire line up. Even the Avenger's interior has better materials in it. For 50K car, I think Dodge can do better. I have faith it will happen in the next year or two.
