I asked a dealer (Tyson Dodge in Illinois) if they have any information as to when the SRT8 Core will be available for order or hit the lot. Here is his response below:

"Had to do a little homework on this one. The Core Models may open for ordering in March, latest April. The only model available now is the Charger Super Bee.
The Challenger SRT8 Core features unique decals and trim, 20" alloys and black Brembo brake calipers, all motivated by the same 392-cubic-inch Hemi V8 with 470 hp and an equal measure of torque. Buyers can opt for special shades of orange and purple, along with the usual silver, white, grey, blue, black and red. Inside, cloth upholstery replaces leather, helping bring the sticker down to $38,995 (instead of $44,775), but you get the same sub-five-second 0-60 and mid-12-second quarter-mile time as the fully-loaded model.

I will keep you updated if you would like?

Bill"

Looks like my wait will continue a bit longer.

For all those that get the core, congrats, have fun with it. Having fun is what lifes all about.

Those that are on the fence, be careful of what you can't afford, its still a 40K car with guzzler tax. Don't be afraid to buy a slightly used one for 5 to 10K less than a "core" loaded. There will be a lot of SRTs on the market come mid to late next year for people getting into the 6.2 SRT. Mine will be one of them.
ENJOY!!!!!

I was thinking the same thing concept, there are going to be some nice low mileage SRT8's for sale when the Hellcat comes out.

A Blue Streak SRT8 would be sweet, I could see doing that. I do love this B5 though.

Dittos here too! Would do another B5 in a heartbeat. Think about trading until I go out in the garage and look at it. BSP, maybe? Prolly like looking for a needle in a haystack. And just got harder if you are looking too? (lol!)

Question. How well did the B5's sell when they came out? Did the dealers have those on the lots a year or two like some colors? If it was a good seller, doesn't it seem like a no brainer to bring it back? To be honest when I saw it in pictures it looked OK, but to see that color in person (like on my neighbor's Caliber) and the one time I saw it from a distance on a Challenger, man it's out of this world! Guess it drives home the point to NEVER decide color until seeing all of them in person. If only it wasn't nearly impossible to do it.

One of my all time favorite Challenger colors.

As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everyone is
impossible- but pissing everyone off, is a piece of cake.

I was able to find a few B5 R/T Classics in March of 2011 and one SRT in July of 2011 when I was looking. By the summer of 2011, the 2010s were basically cleared out. I tried to buy one, but it sold as I was negotiating with the dealer. It was the only B5 left within several hundred miles, and had been on the lot for about 1.5 years. I ended up buying my DY for the same price, but my car was loaded, whereas the B5 had no options. B5 was one of the better selling Spring Special colors (in fact, it was the most popular in terms of sales numbers) and did not linger as much as the yellow or pink cars did. 2010 was a long production year due to the bankruptcy, and there were a lot of leftover 2010s lingering, especially since the 392 came out. I would not be surprised if they were to bring it back for 2014 or something. Jazz Blue is eh, compared to it IMO. It is basically a rehashed Blackberry. They should have a brighter blue...

Thanks. This is what I hoped to hear. Seems more likely to return if it was popular. Again if you've never seen one in person you need too! (IMHO of course).
