Quite interesting. It is interesting to see how they are shaving weight off of this car. I am glad they are freshening it to keep this car going.

I do hope that more retro colors are coming and they keep one or two in for the entire model year instead of a two month run.

Thanks RESUMESPEED for your insight.

What keeps jumping out at me is the careful ommision of the word Hemi on 6.2. Hellcat 8, also happens to be the squadron name and number from the 1939 movie "Flight Command", I just happened to catch on Turner Classics a couple weeks ago, cool name for a mill! :D

. Thanks RS. Do you know if the Hellcat will be available in all colors, or just a special Edition Color?

Great news RS, thanks once again.

That will be about the time I want to upgrade. Probably won't be able to afford the "Hellcat", but definetly can swing for a SRT8. Or, since alot of you will be upgrading, maybe I can jump on a great deal for babied, used SRT8! It will be hard to part with this B5 blue though.

Babied???

Why, of course, it was babied. Just ignore the 1/4 panels!

Often when the B-pillar is omitted, there needs to be additional structure/bracing to reinforce the body to reduce torsional flexing that can occur...typically that adds more weight.

As an example, the 2nd gen of my 'Benz went pillar-less (B pillar) and all models gained 300# in the process.
Granted, it looked nice and gained rear windows that rolled down, but every model gained a lot of weight in a 180" long car body over the previous design.

Thanks RESUMESPEED!!!

I didn't see you mention much about weight or dimensions. Am I understanding correctly that this is NOT a completely new platform, but rather a cosmetic refresh with few or no changes to the chassis and suspension? The exterior dimensions remain the same?

#57 ·
Someone posted about a month ago that this is a refresh... 2017 will be the newer, smaller version Challenger... might not be true and might not be accurate info though.

#62 ·
I'm also confused about the available options as far as tranny on the 6.2.

RS, please clarify this for us. Thanks
From my understanding, "8-sp auto w/AutoStick (all models)" means SXT, R/T, SRT Core, SRT, and SRT "Hellcat".

I think RS would have denoted it if it was not available for the Hellcat like he did for the 6-speed, "6-sp TREMEC manual (R/T and SRT)."

#64 · (Edited)
After reading back through my post it can be a little misleading. Let me clarify it - I was using the 6-speed as an example to when a model gets excluded from a transmission type (i.e. SXT is excluded from the 6-speed - thus, RS notes just R/T and SRT (when it says SRT, again from my understanding, all the sub models of the SRT brand falls under the SRT notation)). Now for the 8-spd auto he says all models which is SXT, R/T, SRT Core, SRT, and SRT Hellcat.

How many years will this new "Hellcat" be produced?

Is this a one-time 'out with a bang' kind of deal or can we expect a full 3-4 year life span (2015-2017/18)?

I usually don't like jumping on the first model year of any car that has significant changes. My dad got burned with that, bought a 2013 Jeep SRT only to have the 2014 add the 8-speed transmission, 8.4" screen, new gauges/etc etc... (granted 2012 was the FIRST year but still, you get what I mean)

I'd like to keep my 392 for a couple more years before jumping up to the new model - also wouldn't mind waiting until the right colour is offered (any chance of Header Orange coming back?)

Can't wait to see that interior!

ResumeSpeed, as always, thanks for sharing.

Question.....if the 6.4L is a 5.7L, bored to a 6.4. The 6.1L is what it is........is the 6.2L it's own entity?

All I know for sure is the wife is going to be angry once again. (The 'you only live once' line might not work the second time?!
Thanks,
Dave

will definitely be looking into this car in the future. Just my opinion though as that the r/t needs a huge power increase to stay competitive. They weight needs to be shaved much more,as I see many things that can be changed w/o decreasing the body size which would be too costly. I work at the BMW x5/x6 plant and see soo many things they have done to decrease weight that could be soo easily and cheaply done to all challengers. Also all of this depends on the barracuda. I will be getting one of these in 4 years when my challenger will be paid for if they decrease weight quite a bit.

A big Roger on that. We had another insider (MC88) who actually helped members out when they had problems with their vehicles and could not get them resolved. He bailed when some self absorbed individuals hounded him. We do not need a repeat of that. I, for what it's worth, consider RS to be the ONLY reliable source I've seen on this forum. I eagerly await his threads and info. That's not to say that others may get good info, but post it and move along. If it's correct info we'll give you credit and appreciate it.

So, why wouldn't the 6spd manual become a 7 spd? Seems only fitting.

It's already a close ratio with a double overdrive. Anything numerically higher in the first gear would render it about usless with the stock RPM limiter. Anything numerically lower in overdrive, you would have to be traveling WAY above highway speeds to use it. The engine will not produce enough torque to propel the car and put a huge load on it. Drive a 6pd in the city at about 40-50mph and then try and get yourself out of a trouble spot. Car has no go and sound like crap not doing it. Kinda like its hurting...lol Just my .02

I believe it is under 10% increase in fuel economy. Not sure where the gas guzzler tax MPG kicks in at.
