I like it better than the outgoing Gen 5 which I did not like at all. It's said to be losing up to 200 lbs in weight. Likely the full 200 lbs in the new 4 banger turbo and maybe half that in the 6.2 V8 version. It's not retro, but time and design marches on.
The retro theme has been ending for years now. I prefer the 2005-2008 Mustangs in looks. The new 'stang is better IMHO than the awkward 2009-2014 refresh.
I never liked the looks of the 2010-2015 Camaro. Though I did like the convertable better.
2008-2014 Challengers, best looking. 2015 refresh, even better. Wish it was 300 lbs lighter, and a convertable version would be killer!
You're right. Sadly, the retro theme has come and is on the way out the door. I'm almost scared to see what they'll do for the makeover in 2017. Either way, I'll be enjoying my car for years to come.
Just left a thread mentioning the '16 at 3708 lbs, which makes sense if the 15 is 3908 and it lost 200, but it's not official.
I have to say, I like the looks of it better than the Gen5s too. It doesn't look as angry. GM needs to understand that just because they make a vehicle look mad doesn't mean it looks aggressive. All the ridges on the hood makes me think of the new stangs though.
I do like their re-design and especially the interior. But to me, it's clear that they were "not" going after any kind of retro look!
The new Camaro looks very similar to the Mustang, in a better way. I'd definitely choose this new Camaro over the Mustang, but not the Challenger. The Challenger still has it's retro look and I personally love it's larger size, weight and how it ties all of that into a great driving experience! She's a real cruiser with a powerful punch.
Maybe I'm the only one, but I liked the 5th gen better. This new one looks a little too "generic" to me, like it has lost some of it's Camaroness. Also just feels like it is a bit mixed up: I see some 4th gen cues in the rear, some I-dunno-what in the front. The interior looks like a definite improvement but still not driver-centric enough: Challenger is better.
The new interior looks great. No question there. It's "retro" but less tacky than the Mustang's.
I only really liked the 5th gen Camaro for how it drove. The LS3 was a hell of an engine and the car was much better in terms of dynamics than the Challenger will ever be. The new Camaro will be even better in these regards with less weight and the LT1.
One thing for sure is the new Camaro is going to absolutely dominate on a road course. GM is still tweaking the tune and isn't ready to talk about performance numbers, but the new base SS is already turning in better lap times than the old 1LE. So a base SS will be quicker on the track than a 5.0 with performance pack, which is faster than a Challenger. On top of that, Chevy will eventually add a new 1LE package that will be even faster. Dodge has some catching up to do on the magnetic shocks.
And then down the road we'll likely see a ZL1 and then a Z28...between those two, the GT350R (and possible GT500/GT350), the muscle-turned-sports-car group is filled with some seriously exciting machinery. The 2017-next-gen Challenger won't be as focused on handling as the Camaro/Mustang, but it'll be ridiculously competitive between the three by then and will just force the Challenger to improve at a rate on par with the Camaro/Mustang. Exciting stuff!
JMO the 67-68 Camaros did not look good. The 69 was the one to get and still is today for money value. I like the new camaro and love the interior of it unlike what Fiat did with the 2015 Challenger dash..
I had one. Was a shitty 6 but I put a vette 327 in it, turbo 400, 4.11 posi rear. Tell you one thing, everything for the 69 was more expensive...unique model year. Ended up junking the car....twisted the frame.
Looks very nice. As some have already said on here "retro is on the way out". Hopefully Dodge figures out how to incrase power and reduce weight as its competitors have done.
The Mustang i didnt buy bc everyone has one and i fell on love with the challengers makover inside in particular. But with this new Camaro? I love it
I had a 5th GEN Camaro(2010) which at the time I thought was awesome, but the design kind of grew old on me.
When I first saw pictures of this new one last week, I kind of though ehh, but since seeing more pictures and colors it is kind of growing on me. Dont really like the new lights on the front or back. But to have 440hp and drop 200lbs, the car should be a contender.
Looks like it's gonna have even less interior room.
At 61 yrs, 6'3" 240, Mustang and Camaro have been off my list.
Hell my convertible 07 Vette was tough to get in and out of.
I'll keep my Big Boy car.
Thank goodness I just ordered my Challenger. GM managed not only to make the Camaro uglier, but it looks like they made the critical flaws of poor visibility, ergonomics and packaging even worse. They have lost their way. If anything, the success of the Challenger should have inspired them to go more retro, not less.
Idiots.
That car is silly ugly. Is this for real or a late April Fools joke?

I dont really like it either, although its growing. You may not like, but on the average it outsells challenger 2-1 over the years, GM must do something right.
My 2010 Camaro had a very "Sporty" feel but no way a "Muscle Car" feel. Hell even with that 2SS V8, you didn't even hear it when you mashed the pedal, it would hug the corners like no other but I couldn't see out of it and was always afraid of changing lanes, more so than the Challenger. Plus the styling was somehow a bit cartoonish, the interior was at first cool but it was not an easy layout for practicality sakes nor was getting in and out of it very easy. (It took me 35 miles while driving away from the dealership to find the headlight switch!) The door thresholds were very wide, you had virtually no way of saving the plastic scuff plates from being scuffed with your feet. I think cause it sat lower to the ground, I hated getting in and out of that car. Or trying at stop signs to see around other cars whilst trying to make a right turn myself. Oh and that Yellow Rally paint job looked great but boy did it chip like crazy!!!!!

In my opinion, you just hit the nail on the head, and didn't even know you were swinging the hammer.
My wife referred to the Challenger as a "sports car". I explained to her that it is a muscle car, not a sports car.
Ford and Chevy have sports cars, and we have the muscle car. That's why I disagree when it is said the Challenger needs size reduction. No, it needs to remain. There are plenty of smaller options if that's what someone wants.
A Tahoe is not a Suburban, it's a Tahoe. If the Challenger is shrunk, it won't be a Challenger.
The modern Challenger will dwarf the original one.. It is big...If they would have built this car from scratch instead of taking the family 4 door and rebodying it maybe it would be a little closer to a normal size.. But when you take a 4 door Chrysler 300 and turn it into a Challenger.. Well you see what you get.. I like it, would I like it 700 lbs lighter from the factory.. Hell Yea!!!
a modern challenger weighs anywhere around 3,800 to 4,140 lbs. 2010-2015 Dodge Challenger, Curb weight
The original 1970 (with a Hemi) weighed at 3,700 lbs. according to folks who own them still. We are not that far off folks...
weight is about 1000 lbs heavy.. I can get the size from my 70 when I go back to the shop.. but look at this pic of my 70 at the pumps. That is my 1500 2 wheel drive GMC behind it and man does that thing look huge. Look at how big the gas pumps are..
This car is an Iron headed 360 in it.... Weight on this car no driver is 3380.
I'll be driving with 3, 4, or 5 people in the car a lot more often than I'll be on the Nurbergring, so the biggest problem with the Camaro for me has always been, it's too small. And they just made it smaller. So when I'm done with my 2015 SRT, I know I don't need to waste my time looking at the new Camaro.
And I still don't like the looks anyway. Looks like a 2016 Corolla and a 4th gen Camaro had a baby.
