2. Everytime you show the car to girls or one of your friends they are going to ask why you did not get the 6-speed. Your automatic Challenger suddenly doesn't look as cool.

3. Better performance with the manual. Power is going directly to the wheels. Automatics have a disconnected feeling because they use a torque converter.

4. You'll look like a complete nancy boy if you show up in a Challenger R/T with a sissy boy automatic transmission (no offense automatic drivers). You will be called names and laughed at when they find out you actually ordered the car with an automatic! (again, no offense automatic drivers, but I must guide this young man in the right direction even if it hurts your feelings).

5. Better gearing

6. MORE FUN

7. It will make you a much better driver. There is no dispute, if you can not drive a stick you can't really drive. People that can drive a manual transmission car are far superior drivers on average. Driving a stick makes you pay attention to what your car is doing and also to traffic conditions. Again, if anyone tells you different it is because they can't really drive a stick.

8. It has hill-start assist so if you are new to driving stick you won't have to worry about starting on inclines and develop poor habits like needing to use your hank brake on a hill.

9. BETTER PERFORMANCE! MORE POWER TO YOUR REAR WHEELS WITH A MANUAL TRANNY!

10. And the most important reason any young person would want a manual tranny - BETTER BURN OUTS!

Re: 3.5 Underpowered?

No one transmission is "better." The auto stick and Tremec are both excellent. It just depends on your driving circumstances. If you live in an urban area with lots of traffic, you will quickly get tired rowing through the gears. However, if you live in a less crowded area, the manual might be the way to go.

Also, if you intend to race, unless you are an expert with a manual, the autostick will provide more consistent 1/4 mile times.

Dude !!!!, If the parents are springing for a new car don't get to picky they may change their mind. stay in the budget and get the challenger Se. I have a charger with the 3.5 and it get up and goes. Also the charger is about 400 - 500 lbs heavier. You could end up with a Pinto if your not careful.

I've got a 500hp 300c and my wife's 3.5 magnum is still fun to drive. Go for it!

Well, seeing as my dad used to be an avid drag racer, I asked him about which transmission he thought I would enjoy more, and he said that he refused to buy me a manual transmission because it's just one more thing to worry about. He also added that the increase in drag times that comes from a manual transmission is negligible for a car that's not even running 10's, and that it would very likely hurt the overall speed of the car until I became very skilled with it. Also, we live in Houston, where all highways are turned into parking lots from 3-6 daily. A 30 minute trip into town can easily turn into 2 hours. Sucks. At any rate, I'm going with the auto-stick. Thank you for your opinions though.
