6.1 to get the 5.7 upgrades?

Anyone think or know if the 6.1 in the SRT8 will get the 5.7 style upgrades instead of bringing out a totally new engine? I think the 6.1 would benefit a lot from the variable cam timing much like the 5.7 and viper V10 have and would also, along with other slight improvements get this engine to the 475-500 horsepower level fairly effectively and much cheaper. I know we all dream of a new 600 horse monster hemi but in reality with GM and Ford already cutting back or even cancelling in some cases, new V8 development, what do you think the future holds for the 6.1? I really haven't heard any reliable rumors about any upgrades so does anyone have any info?

Re: 6.1 to get the 5.7 upgrades?

The 6.1 will more than likely see the MDS at some point, but I read/heard somewhere (don't remember) that dodge doesn't really sell enough SRT cars to affect their CAFE requirements, so they may bring out that 600 HP monster when ford goes into that twin turbo V6.

With the viper getting a HP increase and the R/T getting really close to the HP of the SRT, they have to give the 6.1 more HP or bring out the 6.4.

Re: 6.1 to get the 5.7 upgrades?

I don't think that MDS works on the 6.1. Dodge, supposedly, is also having problems making it work with the 6.4. There is a rumor that a new 6.5 engine is being tested. Who knows for sure? The 2010 model year should be interesting.

The SRT must receive more hp to stand out from 370-375 hp R/T and be competitive with the Mustang, Camaro, and Pontiac G8.

If one was [seriously] considering a Challenger SRT ,why would they even think of buying a ly Pontiac G8 : just for perhaps a few more HPs ?????? Ahhh, well ooops the G8GT has only 361 hp to the SRT's 425 HP. So, then why ? Oh my gosh : 2008 Pontiac G8 GT Full Test !!!

Well, I think the new G8 looks a little dated to me? Its not that I don't like Ponitacs. As a matter of fact I have a good friend that has a 04' GTO and I myself have a G6-GTP. That said, the Challenger while retro is very clean and modern at the same time. Personally, I don't think the G8 is going to be nearly as successful as many think...................just my 2 cents!

Re: 6.1 to get the 5.7 upgrades?

The numbers on the GTO look impressive. But the exterior of the car resembles the Grand Am a little too much for my taste. I had a 1987 Grand Am SE and then another late 90's model 2 door. Both nice cars that served me well, but the GTO just reminds me of the latter Grand Am too much.
