Re: 6.6 Hemi Challenger ?

Well I read in last months Hot Rod Mag that the 6.4L already makes more HP/Liter then the new Z06 motor(LS7). Hot Rod just ordered a crate 6.4L for some dyno testing. If Mopar is already making these motors I'm sure they are going to put them in the Challengers. I'm already makes bigger payments on my truck so that I can pay if off early and get the challenger when it come out. LOL Oh yeah I forgot to say that the new Viper will make 650hp so if dodge makes a 550hp Challenger I dont think it will mess with viper sales.

Don't get me wrong...I LOVE power but then there is overkill too. If DCX can sell it great for them but it will be a small margain of sales for those high end cars...especially if gas prices keep sky rocketing...DAMN GREEDY OIL COMPANY'S!!!
HP has nothign to do with money at the pump. The Corvettes make 425 hp and get 30+ mpg.
Your right foot has everything to do with money at th pump however.
I make more than 100 rwhp and 150 rwtq more than stock in my truck and get the same MPG, (with 4.56 gears now too) as a stock truck.

And yes, Oil companies suck!

I agree AirForce Hemi, and welcome to the forum. I also agree that 500 hp they will at least need to have to compete, and it will in no way mess with the higher hp(600++) new viper and its sales. I just think dcx should get it over with once and for all,and in the top model challenger(srt-8 or whatever they will call it) drop in a higher liter new 426 hemi, rather than going with the 6.1 or 6.4l. It would be killer,to promote the new top of the line retro styled challenger, as the 426 hemi challenger. What a great sales promo that would be!!! Its got such a beautiful retro ring to it!!!!!!!!

Re: 6.6 Hemi Challenger ?

I thought 425HP would be plenty enough HP for me as I am only pushing about 265HP now but with over 300lbs of torque.

I drove a SRT8 Charger for the first time this weekend and I have to say I was not overly impressed. Granted I did not want to abuse it off the line or anything like that. (Mainly out of respect for whoever the future owner would be)
But I did floor it to get on the highway and my speed was probably not in the optimal band for performance of the gear but I felt that it did not feel like all that it should be. Of course the car should improve after a little more breakin but I guess the moral of the story is that I once thought the 6.1 would be plenty and I would never need anything more. This was after hearing car salesman describing it as "scary fast." Of course I am wondering now...

But then (as others point out) you do start getting into Insurance risks and it could start getting up there in $$.

Re: 6.6 Hemi Challenger ?

That is called HP creep. Over time you never have enough of it. I feel like the biggest wimp in the world with my 5.7 cubed 350 HP even though it is more than 95% of the cars out there. I am waiting for the selection of 500 HP machines to sort itself out before moving on up..............

Not necessarily. They don't have to certify crate motors thru the EPA like they do a production motor. The 5.7 and 6.1 are already certified. Adding the 6.4 to the lineup would require EPA certification, and that is an expensive and time-consuming process. I hope the 6.4 does make it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Interesting point, but how can diesels pass EPA certification ? The odor coming from diesels really bothers me. Can anyone tell me why diesels are still needed ? I just wonder with all the money and modern technology around, why a better combustion system has not been evolved by now: unless it's politics and / or money that's involved ? Heck , some years ago I called the EPA or IEPA for just this question. I talked to a woman there and she told me,' oh diesels are not as harmful [as the reg./unleaded vehicles] ; as to the ozone and rest of the upper atmosphere. She said the diesel fumes stay closer to the ground ' ! I replied to her ,' yes, and that's where we/us humans are !! !

Re: 6.6 Hemi Challenger ?

My cousin recently gave me a ride in his 535 hp Lamborghini and all can remember was looking for a bathroom when the ride had come to a complete stop!!! The acceleration was INSANE !! Period. But the funny part was, I found myself wondering what 575 hp might feel like. We are all horsepower junkies in one way or another. Anyone who thinks he or she will be satisfied with a 6 cylinder Challenger should drive the 6 AND both 8's, then decide. Never settle when it comes to buying a car. When you come right down to it, there's not much difference between $35,000 and $40,000 one you reach numbers this high anyway. Only my opinion.
