Re: 72 Challenger
Dropping 25k or 30k into 70-71 cars like you did is okay IMO....that's what I've done also, with me doing the bulk of the grunt work and farming out the final block sanding, paint, machine work, etc.
However, I think you'd agree that this 72 is a big job. I'd be pulling the dash and everything else off of that car (doors, fuel tank, rear axle, etc). If you get into everything from interior panel restoration to stainless brake lines, it's easy for the costs to spiral. |

Re: 72 Challenger
All great information, thank you so much. I'm not planning on building a show car at all. I dont care much about original parts or matching numbers. I see this as a hobby to work on in my spare time and have fun with while I finish it over the next couple years. As long as it has a body style I like (and I've always liked the look of challengers), has a good sized engine, and in good enough shape to finish, than that would be perfect. 72hemi, I'd love to offer the guy 2500 but i have a feeling he will either be insulted or laugh.

Re: 72 Challenger
The hardest thing on the 72 in question here is hunting down the remaining parts, which can be very difficult if you don't know where to look or aren't in that loop. Compared to the cars I've started with in the past this car is a walk in the park. The 71 cuda I built required me to replace both rear quarters both outer rear wheel houses, two floor boards and both front and rear window channels, plus there was other body damage and parts scavaging required. What it really boils down to is the abilities of the person working on the car. For someone like me who has been around the block a few times no problem, for someone who has never done a car before and has no resources that is another story all together.
