...hi!!! - newbie needs help - can anyone point me to, or provide the info for, max speed in each of the gears of the 2015 TorqueFlight 8-Speed auto when paired w/the 392 - &/or if the RT scat packs have different gearing than the SRTs - seen some time sheets, & say, other than altitude & or incline, Scats seem way more quicker than SRTs - could the added weight (@ the wheels, especially) explain the .3 sec? -TY -
:wink3:
- love my 3rd SRT392 - put over 30K mi on ea of the previous A5s & ...sorry to admit (& I thought it impossible that) although the A8 drives way different, less 'full throttle' kick w/way more low end punch; overall, the A8 is very much unexpectedly better 'cause it's quicker & either, mode dependent, more deliberate or smoother, than the 5-speed MB tranny - except I can't find/get info other than gearing & - well truth be told I'm not enough of a brainiac to be able to figure it out w/gear ratios values & max-RPMs - TY!!! & please don't save them for the next owner... Be safe & enjoy!!!
:nerd:
...love my car, & I see plenty of other stupid hot Challys' here - neva shoulda traded the 2nd SRT for a 'vette - if the shoe fits & its comphy... lesson learned -
...I forgot - I know you love your ride & I wanna see it - post a pic!
BTW, if the Scats are any quicker compared to SRT's, it's negligible and would probably only show up with the two running DR's. A tenth at most, based on the small difference in weight. In reality, on stock tires, the SRT will make up for any weight difference with the wider tires. My SRT ran 12.35 @ 114.28 without even trying: stock tires, 2/3 tank of gas, 34 PSI in all 4 tires, 1000 miles on the odometer.
2nd I know dead on because I pay attention to it when doing 0-60 runs with the timer.
4th I know dead on b/c I had some wide open road the other day and when the car stopped pulling at 138 I was like what the heck? I had the windows down and was cruising ... I looked down and I was on the rev limiter in 4th...

Lol yeah yeah. I'm actually really tempted to get a set of Nitto NT05 tires on the rear after riding in a buddies 700+hp Camaro and seeing how good they hooked.
What will really happen though is I'll probably continue to be a tire tester for the Wide Oval Indy 500 summer tires until they start making a nice sticky Potenza in 275/40 ... or until it get wider rims I guess so I can get a different size we make.
Can't beat getting into a new set of performance tires, installed with tax for under $500 (with my discount)
top end speed are very improbable due to torque to power ratios, most likely go faster in lower gears versus upper gear since insufficient torque to pull thru in higher gears

My numbers in post 2 are based on just pure calculation but they do bear out in my logs. If anything, I see maybe 1 MPH or so less than the numbers I posted. Keep in mind that the numbers are when the shift starts (end of one gear). If you don't look at the speed until the shift completes, it'll be noticeably higher because it continues to accelerate between shifts.
Yes that is a lot of steel being slung by that 392. My data logs show my car still gains 1.5 MPH after I close the throttle at the end of the eighth mile.
top speed most likely (A8) might be 6th gear, maybe 7th if it would hold it. I doubt the A8 would hold 8th gear at top speeds give the % of throttle and loads it would see.
The limiting factor is wind resistance at sustained high speeds - in that event, the Charger would fare better with its lower drag.
On the SRT vs. the Scat Pack, on the 'strip, you have heavier curb weight due to the larger dia. rotors, heavier brake hardware, the 3-mode shocks and probably wheels/tires due to more material in the 9.5" wheel and the 275mm tire vs. the 9" / 245mm on the SP models. The SRT also has the HK Performance audio as standard, which has the dual sub module which would contribute some more weight.
(the SP has the optional forged matte black wheel, which would be similar in composition to the SRT forged wheel)

The production version of the 392 Hemi was launched in the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with variable camshaft timing as well as MDS in cars with automatic transmissions. The new 392 Hemi, codenamed "Apache," is based on the third-generation 5.7L Hemi, codenamed "Eagle," and shares few parts with the 392 crate engine.
The SRT 392 and SP with the 392 are exactly the same acceleration wise.
The SRT 392 even though a little heavier, has "TRACK" mode for transmission which actually shifts faster and has sharper throttle response than the SP Sport mode.
