ALLPAR: Challenger to End Production in 2014

Allpar says production ends in 2014. Copy/Paste doesn't show it, but the thread below actually crosses out the 2016 end date. Apparently they now think 2014 is the final year. Go to this link and you'll see where they cross out the "or 2016."

"Challenger is to run through model year 2014 or 2016 with minimal changes, ending production in the summer of 2014. The supercharged 6.2 Hemi is now thought to be arriving in 2014. "

Thoughts?

Amazing how they predict this yet we don't know much about 2013 MY updates let alone 2014. Dodge is the best at keeping things hush hush and it sucks. No excitement building like you get with Ford or Chevy.

I did read in the latest Motor Trend that a SRT Barracuda is going to replace the Challenger, and will be built on a smaller platform. But it didn't say when this might happen.

In the 300/Charger tab, the 6.2L is said to arrive in 2015. That is also when it is to move to a smaller platform. It would make sense for the Barracuda to arrive for 2015 along with the new 6.2L SC Hemi. The original plan was for the Challenger to run through 2014 anyway.

There would need to be a mid cycle enhancement in 2014 to justify assembly to 2016. Even carrying on as-is to 2014 is a stretch, it shows how much Chrysler has dithered over what to do.

First it was Challenger dead after 2013...
Then this past week there was a thread about the Challenger staying to at least 2016 and "evolving"...
Now we're back to dead again...

Round n' round we go folks......where she stops, nobody knows

This is what I don't get. Why do they have to kill the challenger just to revive it as a barracuda? Why can't they just redesign the challenger and move it to the smaller platform? Does the challenger have a bad reputation or something? This just feels like the work of a marketing team. Same car, same idea, new platform ....

The timing would make perfect sense:

New Mustang with IRS
New lighter Camaro
New lighter, smaller Challenger replacement

Makes for one hell of a 2015 if you ask me!
