General Challenger DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the Dodge Challenger. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
I've got a little sailboat and the weight including the trailer and all the gear is much less than the 1,000 lb tow rating for the RT/C. Right now the boat is at the storage yard but I'll want to use it again the spring.
It looks like there is an official Mopar trailer hitch and wiring kit. Has anybody installed one of these? Is it the kind of job I can do in my driveway? Is there another brand of hitch that is better or cheaper?
"Official MOPAR trailer hitch" ? I think that some where in the owners manual of the Challenger it says this car was not made to tow or something like that.
I could be wrong but I think I did see that in the owners manual.

I think someone has, as I remember them saying u had to drill a hole in place, and drilled into their hand, eesh! But I've got the brochure that shows the hidden reciever for our cars, goes behind bumper, and hitch goes in reciever vertically, so u don't have a hole in ur bumper. Same brochure had the TA hood.

It is not recommended for any of the manual transmission or any SRT
That leave the SE and R/T autos with a capacity of 1000lbs or less.
I installed one of these on my 300C and it was pretty straight forward, I did have to drill a hole where the spare tire is but it was not so difficult. The hole was for the wire harness.

Reason: add more info
I would be very wary of trying it in an automatic, either. Certainly, the car has the power to pull the load, but potentially it is murder on the lock-up clutch in the transmission. If it gets worn-out prematurely after such a venture (from accelerated wear and/or overheating), the transmission would have to be pulled to replace the torque convertor assembly (and I'm pretty sure that will be an expensive part, as well).
Probably the most you would ever want to tow on this car is one of those little u-haul carts.

It's not that I really needed 370 hp...but having 150+ hp riding shotgun at a moment's bidding w/o a 4000+ rpm moonshot is what makes me feel like I'm in the right car for me. The roar of a v8 seals the deal!
The Google keyword is "ethanol-free gas". The truth is coming to light. Check out http://pure-gas.org/
I was thinking of that (trailer) to haul the bike (Yo SickrB -painting bike to match car with 50's style GHOST lettering The problem was that the bike/trailer combo came in a 1200 lbs + - so decided to install the CENTER exhaust instead. Figure Sheri can drive the car (------wait-----my heart is racing----vision------blurring------no - no - NOOOOOOOOoooooo..........OK) and I will take the bike if I need them both in one place

The only problem I can see is not being able to turn "overdrive off" like you can in a truck when towing, so the transmission isnt hunting for the right gear, thus ever heating. If you used the manual stick deal and kept it from getting all the way to fifth gear, i would think you would be ok.
