General Challenger DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the Dodge Challenger. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
That has got to be one of my favorite funny car vids ever. I saw it years ago and always think of it when I see something small towing something too big. The scary part is anybody can go buy trailers and whatnot and tow them with whatever and there is no real laws that protect other people on the road from people towing extremely unsafe loads.

I towed a 1,000 pound Scotty travel trailer with a Ford Fairmont (2dr). It had a 200 CID (3.3 l) straight six with a single barrel carb and a manual three speed on the floor.
It had a meager 125 hp at the most. I had no trouble with the trailer in the years I pulled it with that car.
There should be no reason you can't pull a trailer with the Challenger (if you know how to pull a trailer) if you want to.
I would look to see if there is some sort of ghost hitch that when the receiver is removed, you don't notice the hitch.
I would place my bets on the weight capacity being what it is on the transmission load capacity wrt warranty. This would include the clutch on the manuals. Dodge offered lifetime drivetrain warranty. These cars in general are driven more 'aggressively'. Isn't the tranny the same as used in the Ram's? They don't have a shortage on towing ability. The hidden hitch that Mopar offers (I've got one, not installed) has a funky drawbar adapter that is at a 90 degree angle, reducing its capacity. Aftermarket hitches overcome that shortcoming but they hang below the bumper which looks awful.
Mechanically, these cars are not inferior to cars that were used in the past to tow large trailers. I'd say they are better in just about every way. Brakes are a hell of a lot better now, trannys are more durable, differentials are stout, the weakness that there might be is the mounting of the hitch. Though aftermarket using the same mounting points claim a class III capacity.
Really, if you know you are going to be doing a lot of towing you should buy a truck. But there is no reason the Challenger can't be pressed into towing duty. It's my only car so it's going to be multipurpose. The trunk is big but not everything will fit. The opening isn't low enough to fit long items in easily thus the reason for a hitch to pull a trailer with.
The hysterical types really should calm down.
Probably its a Cruise control issue. With an Auto... the car will shift down when needed... this won't happen with a manual. Drive without the cruise and most likely will be perfectly OK.

A very fast Marshmallow,
But a Marshmallow all the same.

Bzzzzt. Trucks with manual trannys are available with cruise.
I've got a little sailboat and the weight including the trailer and all the gear is much less than the 1,000 lb tow rating for the RT/C. Right now the boat is at the storage yard but I'll want to use it again the spring.
It looks like there is an official Mopar trailer hitch and wiring kit. Has anybody installed one of these? Is it the kind of job I can do in my driveway? Is there another brand of hitch that is better or cheaper?
Here's the boat.
Use the vett! lol
But yes, you should be able to just like others here have said
