Re: Best way to learn manual transmission?

Do you want to hear a crazy humor?

On allpar someone posted that the 2009 manual transmission Challengers might be delayed until they can train factory workers to drive sticks.

Re: Best way to learn manual transmission?

lol. I read somewhere else on some forum that some guy's dealership warned him that if he got a manual there might be a delay in delivery because no one at the dealership was qualified to handle a manual transmission and they wouldn't be able to prep it and what not.

Re: Best way to learn manual transmission?

On that note -- I am personally worried about bringing my car in for warranty work and stuff. I'll probably want to have the dealership do all oil changes and work for the car while its in warranty just because I don't want to give them any excuses to not honor warranty work should something go wrong.

I can just see someone getting in and tearing up the tranny in my car trying to pull it back into the work area.

Re: Best way to learn manual transmission?

While I'm spamming the thread I might as well ask some questions.

On average (with "average driving habits") how often will the clutch plate or any part of the tranny require replacement?

How much does this cost (with and without labor cost)?

If I am a "spirited" driver (not doing hard launches or burnouts or anything, though) how much does this affect the life of the parts and how much sooner am I going to be replacing things?

the transmission itself is a TR-6060 which is legendary for its durability. this is the transmission used in the viper and according to wikipedia is rated for 600 foot pounds torque. you definitely don't need to worry about decreased lifespan for choosing a manual. As to which parts tend to wear out the fastest and how much they cost to replace, you may want to talk to your favorite mechanic. When the driver is skilled I believe the lifespans of both auto and manual transmissions are comparable.

PS look up TR-6060 on wikipedia.org or Google for more info

I dont even believe that. Were the SRT4's not a stick shift? And what about the vipers, i know they are sticks. I think this is just something to get everyone stirred up personally. I cant see them delayin the 6speed bc of that. Maybe due to something else, but not that.

Re: Best way to learn manual transmission?

Never leave this car at a dealership stay and watch them !!
Dodge is cool about their bumper to bumper not to worry at all.
I'm still on the floor that is insane about the workers not knowing how the drive sticks, but they can drive a tractor, yah hey!
The rumors are getting a bit bizarre and we ain't seen nothing yet wait till all those 08 go to BX.

You have to be an SRT dealer to sell/service those cars. I had this problem since my local guys aren't an SRT dealer they wouldn't touch my SRT4. That being said there's no way you can tell me a dealership full of employees that one of them can't drive a manual trans.

That particular dealership might not order a six spd because of it. They might just be passing it off as a factory delay instead of their delay.
