Re: Bob Nardelli will be the end of Chrysler...............

The start of the thread wasn't well researched. Companies have stopped leasing due to automotive resale prices.

A good example is the situation I am in. I leased my GMC truck in '06. The truck was purchased at $40,000 (Cdn), the value at the end of my lease in '09 was 'set' at $26000 and I basically make payments payments on the $14000.

The problem comes in here, resale prices have dropped with the increase of fuel prices. The real value of my truck when I hand it back will roughly be $20000 if lucky. The leasing company will take a loss of over $6000 on my vehicle alone.

Mr. Nardelli can only react to what the leasing/financial options are available as any other manufacturer.

Re: Bob Nardelli will be the end of Chrysler...............

BMW is feeling a major pinch and I suspect other luxo car makers will too.

They took a write down of millions and millions of dollars this year due to slipping residuals, and are trying to focus on making the purchasing of their cars more attractive.

from an auto news article I just read:

Sinking used car prices forced the company to more than double its risk provisions to 695 million euros due to lower than expected revenues from cars coming off lease, adding more could still come in the second half.

Re: Bob Nardelli will be the end of Chrysler...............

I was not going to write a novel. I am aware that leasing was dropped because Chrysler has the WORST resale value, well deserved for the reputation they have. With that said, how many sales will they now lose because of this? Hard to tell. They can not afford to lose one sale, neither can Ford or Chevy. Toyota and Honda can lease all day long and take the car back and make a profit, the competitive advantage will only grow for the imports especially if Ford and GM follow suit. That is my point. Toyota and Honda are already taking over, rightfully so for the superior product they produce, this will only make the margin they grow larger.

Saying leasing is a waste obviously tells me you are not aware of the benefits. How about a business owner that can write it off?? How many Contractors will now buy Ford or Chevy trucks? Most already do, but this will turn the Dodge guys over. How about the person, myself included, that buys new cars every 1-2 years. Leasing is much cheaper and you always have a new car. You never take the hit of the trade in, you just have a constant car payment. I do not lease, but for my Daily Driver I also do not buy American and probably never will due to the resale value.

Carnut, This is a Dodge Challenger forum. If I want doom and gloom I'll watch CNN. You state that Chrysler is crap and you'll never own an American car for your daily driver. What the F*ck do you want here? Go away, please.

So wrong on so many levels. Ford and Chevy are losing their collective as_es on every truck and SUV lease they make. They will be following Chrysler's lead very soon (GM has already cut off leasing in Canada) Toyota and Nissan are also losing their as_es at the very least on leases of Tundras, Land Cruisers, Siennas and LX470s, and Titans, Armadas and QX56s respectively. By the way, guess who will be building trucks for Nissan?
Today, leasing is undoubtedly a "waste"/loser for auto manufacturers. Leasing may be cheaper for you, but who cares. Auto manufacturers would be insane to take huge losses year after year just to make it more convenient for you, or anyone else for that matter, to get a new car every "1-2 years."
You are obviously not very bright about the whole economic situation and what is driving the decisions.

TaTa is the largest (only?) auto manufacturer in India. I believe they just bought Jaguar from Ford. Not to be confused with tatas.
