Well, came out from the Supermarket to this...

I always make it a point to give cars next to me plenty of space and will even park on the other end of lots just avoid things like this. I know everyone is in a rush this time of year but I wish people were a bit more careful and more aware of their surroundings. Very frustrating. :flame:

Does anyone know of another country where a grotesquely obese person with a cell phone, X-box, wide screen TV and cable service can be considered living in poverty? Just wondering.

Another question. When do the moochers have to pay their fair share. How about the sweep up gov't buildings or pick up trash at the side of a road or any number of other unskilled labor tasks that we pay high rate for union labor to accomplish. Nevermind just answered my own question.

Believe me, I am all for having to work to receive the aid you get, workforce training and education should be a component of getting government aid. Teaching people to earn is essential and even rewarding for the earner, many of us get that as kids from our parents, but sadly not all.

What's crazy to think about is that the tax rates on the super rich have been as high as 90% in the not too distant past, post war times of nation building, or the glory years of the 1950's as conservatives like to refer to it. They seem to forget about that though. I do not think they should return to that number, but a 3% increase like is being proposed seems like a no-brainer. You know who hasn't been creating jobs lately, the super rich. They actually haven't been for the past several years, even with their lower tax rates. It's all gone straight to their super large bank accounts.

Drinking the Kool-Aid would be saying things like freedom and justice are why we are at war and occupying many foreign nations around the world. That's a large part of why our country is in debt, even after George Bush collected a record revenue in 2007. It makes you wonder where he spent it all, I mean how could he have possibly created so much debt? The Democrats are far from a prize, but the Republicans claiming to be money managers is a total joke...they only operate the country at a loss while transferring the wealth to the top 1%. Look it up, they have been huge national debt creaters for many many years.

I do agree that pension programs are budget breakers, healthcare maybe...aid to the poor, not so much. Let's face it, pensions are impossible promises and are a thing of generations past. It's crazy to think they were solvent when the rich didn't have so much - think there is a connection? I feel bad for the people who are having pensions taken away, especially as the people at the very top are making and taking more and more.

Perhaps it is because I don't live in a very large city that I don't see poverty the same way as some of you do. We have a lot of very poor people around here though, and most of them work too.

Good points have been made by some of you, great debating. Now I am behind at work LOL

I'll try to make this as non-political as possible since I've hit a gray zone on a prior post but just a couple points,
1. You're correct about jobs not being created. Could it be because it would be a money loss to do so with all the new taxes and regulations coming?
2. I agree with your second paragraph. But don't assume everyone is locked into one party or the other. As a conservative, I was yelling quite loudly at the TV every time Bush spent more money as I do now. BTW are you aware the current admin has greatly outspent Bush?
3. Check into who created the atmosphere whereby people who could not afford house payments got a loan anyway, causing the housing bubble.
4. You hit a very good point. A person in poverty in the Appalachians is quite different than a person in poverty in Chicago. One of them really is in poverty.
5. HEMIZSP is absolutely correct. No sane compassionate person would deny those truly needy the help they need. The problem is the moochers are steering the ship now and that will end in disaster for everyone including the truly needy.
6. How the hell did we get from a car dent to this?

Part of the reason I am so cold is I have members of my somewhat immediate family do who work the system. One member is claiming disability. He used to mow the highways for the state. Well, he injured himself in a motorcycle accident and tried to play it off like he got hurt on the job. He got his disability and now you can find him driving his tractor around the property on most days.

Another member of my family lost their job a few years ago. THis person got the 99 weeks unemployment but only looked for a job the first couple weeks. They did not want to work and it was apparent that the state did not track to make sure they were looking for a job. After all, unemployment was so high and the state was overwhelmed.

If I know two examples in my family that is mostly middle class, it would seem that the percentage of people playing the system is not insignificant. So yes, I am jaded to many of those sucking off the govt.

haha i had no idea the thread would evolve to socioeconomics, but everything in this universe has a cause and effect!

back to my OP, i had my work's dent specialist take a look at the damage and he's pretty confident he'll be able to almost 100% restore it. i figure i'll give it a shot and see what can do--i mean it can't get worse :dunno:

^^^ Definitely worth a shot. Good and unexpected news! :bigthumb:

Regardless if it was an accident or not the peron that did it HAD to know it happened. That isn't your everyday ding. That is an accident that should have been reported, but I agree with the others in that it was more likely vandalism. We put my wife's car in the shop today so we errands I my challenger. I try to park a little further out but ALWAYS try to park next to a curb/island to avoid at lest one side and hug the other so the one car has plenty of room . . . . Scary stuff . . . Hope it's fixed soon . . .

I had a run in with a careless doof back in 1983. That was my last door ding. I have instituted paranoid parking methods since then. I discovered that some people actually think door dings are normal and cannot understand why people get upset at them. I had a brand new, don't laugh, VW Rabbit. It was a special Rabbit. It had the ultra rare power steering and a limited sandstone metallic paint. I was living in an apartment in Las Vegas. (I don't recommend either) I arrived home early one day and there were literally no other cars in the lot on my side of the building. I no longer got inside my apartment and looked outside to see a giant Oldsmobuick that had never seen a bottle of wax in it's life, lumber on up and park right next to the only other car in the entire lot. The 400 pound Oldsmobuick barge captain then proceeded to swing his door open right into my Rabbit with enough force to rock said Rabbit back and forth. By the time I got back outside the behemoth was in his apartment. There was of course a huge dent in my door. I baited the behemoth back outside with a sausage on a fishing line and proceeded to question his heritage. He claimed innocence even after I showed him chunks of his deteriorated body side molding fused to my door. He opened his door and the molding did not match up to the dent. I requested him to re-enter his Oldsmobuick and of course when he did the barge dropped such that the molding now matched. Long story short. His insurance refused to pay because he lied and my insurance refused to pay because I saw it happen?!

I hope their car gets the same.
They usually do... precisely because they don't care and can't imagine why we do. That's why I avoid fubarred cars like the plague in traffic and parking lots - the owner has nothing to lose and he/she may not have all his/her faculties. :worried:
