There are still no official releases.
No Pricing. No Order Dates. Not even confirmation that Canadians will get to order, we might just get whatever the manufacturer feels like sending to whichever dealers they feel like sending them to.

Canadian cars won't be until June or July.

I did notice one the tracking site that Venthos made
Unofficial 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Tracker
that there are two other Canadian cars listed and both have build status and one even has a VIN number. I don't know if they're making stuff up or if they have some special connection but I've been unable to find any info and my dealer continues to tell me that they know nothing.

Re: Canadian Info

Was at three different dealerships yesterday. My dealership says my order has been processed at their level and are waiting on dodge for confirmation. The second dealer did not know that pricing had even been sent out and tried to impress me about the limited availibity of 500 units and the special badging only for canada... who cares! the third dealer is the one who I said in an earlier posting was having a lottery. This time the salesman said only their existing customers would be able to buy a challenger..how many are they getting?
They don't know "Jack" and Dodge is destroying what could be a really beautiful experience for true Dodge Challenger fans.
My advice to Dodge, stop the BS, train your sales staff, publish the pricing, and give a delivery date.
Dodge has a program on the 2008 300C SRT8 $8000.00 cdn plus off the list price... what the heck is going on?

Re: Canadian Info

Yes,
Its really disappointing that Dogdge is deciding to treat its Canadian customers like crap.
I put a deposit on my vehicle over a year ago and no is still able to tell me if I am even getting the car.
The difference between the car manufacturers is tremendous.
I recently walked in to an Audi dealership and enquired on an R8. It is very hard to get one right now even at $170 plus tax Cad.
I was told that they require a $5000 refundable deposit and once the deposit is there it goes to the factory for order. Once the order is processed and the factory confirms that there is a car that will be built with the options requested the deposit is upped to $15,000.
At that point you are guaranteed the exact car you requested.
Since the production run is limited, the car will take 16 to 18 months to arrive from first deposit. Today, one could even order the yet to be released R8 with the lambo engine and know that you will get one when they come out.
While I obviously like the price on the challenger (if I ever get one) and I dont think you can really compare it fairly to a supercar like the R8, my point is that the customer experience is quite different.
With Audi you know exactly what is going on and when it will get there and what to expect.
With Dodge its basically in their hands and they keep you guessing all the way.
Its even more frustrating when we all know that their US customers are getting treated differently and that they will be getting their Canadian built cars before we do.
I wonder how the US folks would feel if the shoe was on the other side and we were getting US built cars before they did.
Would they put up with the same crap?
Probably not.
Very frustrating....

Re: Canadian Info

Last I heard there was supposed to be some formal announcement of the special "500" Challenger coming out May 1st. That's come and gone but maybe we'll hear something this week?

This week the US versions might even start getting picked up and taken home, so I sure hope that we get some canadian news soon.

Re: Canadian Info

So here is the latest news, from Bob at RLD.

Has anyone heard anything yet?

Although we were supposed to get confirmed pricing in Feb and that got changed to April and then finally May 1st. The latest word is that we will get the prices when the cars show up on the lots.

They're making all the US models first and then the Canadian versions. That means we won't know our prices until the car is on the lot ready to be picked up in Late June or probably even July!?

WTF

Re: Canadian Info

I called the dealer again today and he is telling me that the cars wont be in production until july so he is saying delivery august or september.
I asked about pricing and he told me he wasnt sure but was probably msrp plus a thievery markup.

Someone else on this forum said that 5 star dealers are not supposed to be marking up over invoice price. Can anyone confirm this?
I would like to have some ammo when I am presented with the price.
I was also told that there may only be 500 cars available and that they may only get one car.
There is so much bull**** out there that its hard to make sense.
If I really didnt like the car I would tell Dodge and Chrysler to go and F___ themselves.

Re: Canadian Info

There is still no confirmation of anything from Chrysler. So this is all best guess and reliable rumours.

there will be only 500 Canadian Challengers. Chrysler has threatened severe penalties if any US dealers sells a car to a Canadian.

Pricing is not announced officially, but two prices were put in newspapers a month or so ago allegedly "official" but Chrysler never followed up with announcements and the prices were different so its hard to say. Best guess.
MSRP is going to be 46-47K
Options might be extra.
GG-Tax ($3,000) might be extra.
As far as I know, dealers can charge whatever they want. No restriction on the 5-stars. However, there is or used to be a law in Ontario that prevented a dealer from selling for more than MSRP but some dealers can get creative with mandatory dealer installed options that are just a way to increase the price.

Lastly and here is the kicker.
Canadians will not be allowed to order 08 Challengers.
Chrysler will make 500 of them and they'll be made however Chrysler wants to make them in either Black or Orange. They will be shipped to various 5-star dealers, probably no more than one per dealer and it won't matter if the dealer had wanted one with that combination of color and options, they get what they get.

Price. As I stated above. The most reliable rumour today is that when the cars hit the lot (possibly in Aug or Sept if your dealer is correct) that's when we will get official pricing.

Given the numerous changes in when they'll announce the price I am pretty sure they're hopoing the Canadian dollar tanks before then so they can jack up the price to closer to 60K msrp... imagine what the price will be with dealer gouging included!?

Hmmmmm 60K might get me an 09 CTS-V with 550hp that'll do 0-60 in almost 4 flat. Doesn't have the style of mopar muscle, but it'll kick its ass and do it in style. Nah.. I still want a Challenger, but dammit I am getting tired of the bs games.

Re: Canadian Info

Thanks for the info money2burn, I was hoping that Chrysler would restrict price gouging but maybe my dealer was right. They will do what they have done in the past. Tell their dealers that if they want the car in numbers that they will need to take bigger numbers of the cars that they do not sell. Thus, they will penalize the challenger owners with having to buy stock that will sit on their lots for longer periods.
