Re: Canadian Info

Hey guys.....

here's what i know out here in Vancouver.....select dealers will get what they get.....500 units in Canada only....black and orange only....configurations unknown....MSRP is 46999 CAD plus options and taxes.....my dealer has sold the one and only Challenger they will be receiving for an agreed 80000 CAD ( i was told by a source at the CADA that selling a new vehicle for over MSRP is illegal in Canada).....sounds like a very complicated process if you live in Canada and want to purchase a 2008 Challenger....too bad....personally turns me right off from considering purchasing one ....i'll stick with my '06 Charger SRT-8

Re: Canadian Info

I am at the same point. I am quickly losing interest. I have been a staunch Mopar enthusiast for over 40 years. This is leaving a very bad taste in my mouth.

Ditto, except it is only 35 years for me. If Chrysler Canada is counting on any 'brand loyalty' they have definitely dropped the ball on this one. I'll just keep playing with the 'original' Challenger.

47K ++ so thats back to the low-mid 50's for MSRP.
and selling for 80,000?? for a car that can't even get 50,000 on Ebay, that is whacked.

at mid 50's there are other cars that can be considered, at 80 its a whole new realm and the Challenger as nice as it is doesn't deserve even a blink of consideration.

I would like to have some ammo when I am presented with the price.
I was also told that there may only be 500 cars available and that they may only get one car.
There is so much bull**** out there that its hard to make sense.
If I really didnt like the car I would tell Dodge and Chrysler to go and F___ themselves.
any chryco dealers in ONTARIO,CANADA ... CANNOT SELL ANY CARS OVER MSRP !!!!

now ..they only way the can get around this is to sell the car to a/their leasing company and then .... VIOLA ...IT IS A USED CAR AND CAN BE SOLD AT WHATEVER THE MARKET BEARS !!!

BUT AS I SAID .... IN ONTARIO, THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SELL ANY NEW CAR OVER MSRP .!!! PERIOD

if you do have a car dealer that does this practice , they can be reported to the (tada) - toronto automoible dealers assc. and also with (omvic) - ontario's ministry that hadles car dealers.

hope this helps you .

that sounds like a nice law. It should be that way EVERYWHERE. I think its BS that a dealer can sell a car you ordered first because the next guy offered another $1k

chomperoni: In Canada MSRP is the Max price you would pay. If the Challenger wasn't so sought after, you could probably get that price down a bit, but for every sale, there are 10 people waiting for the car, so you won't get it for less.

Re: Canadian Info

That is great news 3h4me.
Of course i dont mind a discount but its ok to pay msrp for a sought after car. I am not however into paying over mrsp.

Sorry to disagree but I know is sask and alberta that this is not the case. As a former car salesman (don't shoot me) I know that most provinces don't have such laws. Back in the day (almost 20 years ago) I am pretty sure that Ontario was the only province to make and enforce an MSRP law. As far as I know they are still the only ones.

In most places a dealer can and will sell a car for whatever they can get for it. Your best bet is to use a service like carcostcanada and find out what the dealers actual cost is and don't forget that there are holdback and other incentives that customers aren't told about that only apply to dealers. msrp is plenty of profit and I would ONLY pay that for a rare or unique car otherwise I will only pay under msrp.
