Re: Canadian Info

I don't think the KR is worth that kind of money either. Even a regular GT500 is overpriced. Not because they're stangs, I actually considered a GT500 but I don't think its worth msrp and its certainly not worth over that amount. the KR will just be even more inflated.

and the camaro.... if only it was so damn ugly! LOL
honestly one of the things that have always drawn me to the Challenger is that they are never planning on making millions of them, unlike the Stang and Camaro. I don't want to be driving the same car as a bazillion other people.

I need to be just a little unique. I need to have some power beneath me and I need to not feel like I am stooge for paying so dang much for a car that's not really worth it.

The Challenger has the first two down pat, its just the price of the 08 thats still unkown but probably too high!

Re: Canadian Info

You say its only a 340. When my 68 R/T was new, the 340 swingers were just as quick up to the first 800 or 900 feet. Then displacement took over. And don't forget that if you buy the car, it won't depreciate the minute you drive off the lot. If you are not a car guy, take someone with you to make sure you are getting what you think you are getting. Pay particular attention for filler or rust.

Re: Canadian Info

This doesn't make sense but here is the link:

According to Driving.Ca the pricing is out on the 2009 SRT8 = $45,095 canada.com Autos/Cars - New/Used Car Classifieds and Review

They don't show any pricing for the 2008my

Re: Canadian Info

here is the latest from my dealer. He is guaranteed at least one 2008 of the first 50 made for Canada. He has already told that buyer that the dealership will drive the car for the first week and then put it on display for 30 days in the showroom. A second set of 24 "VIP" vehicles for special canadians will also be made. He was informed by Chrysler who that is in our London area.
The dealership isn't happy with the 2008 pricing and has voiced concerns higher up, but Chrysler can see the demand and the price is set.
What really upsets this dealer is that he has heard of dealers planning on changing the car ownership and holding auctions, this way they can sell it for any amount. He agrees with me that Chrysler is risking the brand loyalty by the way this appears to going down.
Bottom line he nor I know whether I will be getting my 2008 Dodge Challenger.

CRAP why does the new Challenger have to be so dang expensive!?
The 340 in '73 came with smaller intake valves and a cast crankshaft rather than forged. Still desireable though because it was the last year of production for the 340 and it made decent power for its day. 40k is probably tops considering the recent slide in muscle car prices. The automatic is less desireable than the 4 speed and paint color is significant (brown, for example, would probably knock off $10k).
The classic 'cudas will definitely hold their value better than a new Challenger but the driving experience does not compare. I've had several 'cudas and Challengers over the past 30+ years, and although I didn't think twice about long trips when I was in my 20's, and I still love to drive one, I definitely prefer shorter drives today (200 miles in a 300C is much less tiring and cheaper at the pump). I guess it depends on whether you want an investment or a more practical, comfortable ride. I think if we wait a year or so, even the Canadian dealers will be willing to negotiate - especially if fuel prices continue with the current trend.

Re: Canadian Info

Thanks plum70.
She's a nice looking car but I think it is pushing the envelope on the value. And its at a dealer, albeit a custom dealer, rather than a private owner so that tends to make me a little more leery. The Cuda is off my radar.

Unfortunately, I've now heard enough rumours on the price that I have made a decision that the 08 Challenger isn't worth the $58+ that would come out of my pocket, so I am done. Sad. and done. I'll let me deposit sit and not tell the dealer my decision yet just in case the rumours are wrong but I have officially given up any hope of owning a new Challenger.
Anyone got some really nice retro muscle for sale at a good price!? LOL

And I am still totally excited about everyone else here who's getting a new Challenger and am looking forward to the pics of them in your driveways and on your streets and tracks!!
