Re: Carbon Fiber In Short Supply !! / ??
Well, so far I've found a company that makes carbon fiber. They make a limited number of parts for just a few makes/models ;i.e. under Dodge, They only make hoods for the Neon. Here's their website : www.seiboncarbon.com .They are located in Walnut, California . Here's one Q/A :Q. What are the pros and cons between "dry carbon" and "wet carbon" ?A.Dry vs. wet involves completely different processes of manufacturing. You can find extensive articles about the details on the web if you do a general search. As for pros and cons, here is a brief summary: Simply put, with dry carbon, you get the most strength and save the most weight. The weaves and quality are more consistent, but they are generally 3 to 4 times more expensive than wet carbon. Wet carbon products are hand-laid, and are more prone to small defects like wavy weaves and tiny bubbles. They do not save as much weight as their dry carbon counterparts. But on the plus side, you get an incredible combination of visual attraction, weight-deduction, and most importantly, price. All products you see on our website are wet carbon. Wet carbon products are also the most popular and most commonly referred to as just "carbon fiber" . P.S. CF must not be too short of supply
as Seibon also makes a CF backpack for things like a notebook PC. Some are even made with CF and Kevlar [ it sounds like]!! They do cost $189.00. Is that a good/fair price ? Here : ![]() |

Re: Carbon Fiber In Short Supply !! / ??
As I suspected, it looks like the Challengers will have steel hoods.
In a post today, 68RT/71GTX stated, "I was at the Spring Fling car show at the Brampton plant last Sunday.... I am also told that the steel hoods are already in the plant. Right now they are building the mules for testing. They would not bring one outside for the show." |

I believe only the super stock concept has a full CF body. The orange concept does not. Someone feel free to prove me wrong on this if I'm mistaken...........and I sincerely HOPE that I'm not. Otherwise the production Challenger will end up weighing closer to a Dodge Ram than a new Camaro or Mustang. And honestly, I wouldn't want CF body panels or hoods on the new Challenger. That stuff is great for race cars, but its longevity/durability on everyday drivers would be questionable.
