surely smoking a 454 chevelle SS or a 427 vette with a small block duster back in the day, would be the best description of what it's like to smoke a viper gts or a zo6 vette with a neon ..... theres just a sweet beauty in doing such a thing that just can't propperly be explained to someone who's not experienced it....... interestingly, out in the real world, after doing such a thing, you generally don't get "Yea, but" statements........ well, unless it's a mustang guy, they generally always just accuse you of running the "bottle"

any way, the point I was eluding to in my original post is.......... the streets have changed

yes, I plan on buying a new challenger myself to park beside my original chally, likely in late 09 or in 2010; however, when I do......... I'll still be driving a neon.... and interestingly, I'm looking forward to smoking my first challenger equally as much as I'm looking forward to buying one

Funny, we both may get to the same spot just coming from different directions? As I was think while I hate high fuel prices that are likely to go higher. I still don't think I could live with a S/E (i.e. V-6) Challenger. So, I was thinkng of looking for a good used NEON as a cheap daily driver and my new Challenger R/T as a toy for the weekends...................

Re: Challenger Competition- Good for Us

Competition is a good thing, as long as Chrysler is willing to compete. My concern is that when things get tough (the Camaro in a very high output form, or a high powered base Mustang GT is released), that Chrysler will decide that the relatively limited ponycar market isn't worth any farther investment. It didn't take anymore than a rumor that GM was cancelling the Camaro and Firebird in '74 to seal the fate of the original Mopar ponycars. I just hope history doesn't repeat itself.

Well, I really don't think it was GM's announcement of cancelling the Camaro/Firebird that ended the Challenger's first run .It had more to do with the Feds and insurance companies; and certainly the cost of gazoline was not a factor !That would seem illogical to cancel Challengers/Barracudas/'Cudas.In fact that would prescribe even Mo-Pars to be built ?

I doubt if you will ever see the 6.4 in a production vehicle. Crate only. Who knows how much longer the 6.1 will even be around. Expect more Hybreds, Diesels, and 6 turbo's.

Re: Challenger Competition- Good for Us

Nobody has confirmed a four cylinder for the Camaro, it's a rumor circulating right now.

A four cylinder would not be a good match for a car this big and this heavy and it's very out of character for a muscle car. It will work hard, boost hard, and use a lot of fuel to move a car like this around, harder tha a V8. The V6 will use nearly as much fuel as well. These aren't cars anyone buys for fuel sipping.

I can tell you from the inside that the Camaro will be getting a 270-300hp V6, a 400-430hp V8 and a 500hp+ supercharged V8, you can bank on that.

The Mustang is getting a refresh and will debut Ford's new V8 (called BOSS or Hurricane) with a big boost in power. It will also be carrying Ford's new turbocharged V6 as well as a new interior and styling updates.

I'm with the person who thinks Chrysler should make an SRT10 Challenger. Absolutely they should, 600hp+ in the Challenger would be a hard trump card for Ford and GM to match.

I dont think the V10 will fit, it sure would be nice though. My only concern is how to get the weight down on these things. Thats its biggest problem 4100lbs with a small block...you gotta be kidding.
