Got info from a good friend that a challenger was spotted in Boone NC a few days ago. We live close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Which has a viaduct around Grandfather Mountain. It is used a lot by the car companies to shoot commercials and promo stuff. My friend saw the car on the road, and thought it cant be. They knew some brass at Chrysler who said You may have seen it in Boone or on the Parkway but wont be quoted to admitting that. The car was solid black with tinted windows. I dont think Chrysler would be shooting photos or commercials in NC if it wasn't going to be built!
Sounds like they were doing some road testing with a mule car. I used to drive I-64 between Beckley, WV and Lexington, Va. I would see groups of three to maybe eight Ford products running thier Mountain grade and curve testing. They would leave I-64 and run RT 219 north and also RT 92 (Both make for some nice enthusiat driving, nice twisty two lanes) toward Snowshoe Ski Resort.
I remember seeing four or five of the 94 body style Mustangs on I-64 with thier camoflauge. It was probably nine months to a year prior to the 94's release. I remember seeing the Explorer in camo also.
This is GREAT news if there is a Black car running the roads. That means the car is being tested and is quite a ways along!
NICE! The way Dodge has been quick to introduce newer cars to the market recently, ie the Nitro, Caliber, Hornet, etc, we could see the Challenger at the dealers by late 2007! (Long shot probablly, but not an impossibility!)
I've seen mules here in NOVA, hyundai, honda, toyota, and even a couple benz and bimmers. Dunno why, but they all love the gas station off I95 in lorton (next to the auto-train)
I used to live in Boone while going to college (ASU) . Those are some great roads like 321 from Boone to Blowing Rock as well as a ton of backroads that I used to run from my house in Hound Ears Country Club to Blowing Rock. I was in a new Carerra at the time, great fun.
My issue is they will not use a Black car for a TV commercial, it just wont due the lines justice like the orange will. I agree if anything it is a mule.
I used to have a home in Beaver Creek, CO as well and I saw tons of mules doing drivetrain testing esp Ford trucks.
IF a solid black Challenger (concept car not 1970 type) was spotted, this is EXCELLENT news! There is a new DCX publicity add running here in the province of Quebec (perhaps elsewhere also) which features some Chrysler and Dodge products in the same spot (Jeep, 300, Caliber and others) AND THEY ARE ALL SOLID BLACK! This is the way the different products are shown as being part of the same family.
IF, and this is a big IF, a solid black Chall was spotted, it must be to add at a latter date to this publicity..and perhaps also be used as a mule!
IF IF IF this Chall exists, then THE CHALLENGER IS BEING BUILT FOR SURE!
Too bad there is NO PICTURES! I agree with Vanishing Point!
Well...Rumors...rumors...I love rumors! It WAKES us up! Now, since DCX is mute as usual, I am going back to sleep! zzzzzzzzzzz Wake me up for the next rumor! zzzzzzzz Good Night and Happy BLACK dreams Mopar fans! zzzzzzzz

My source was a good friend who is a diehard chevy person. Her and her husband own several cars that have been in magazines and on the Hot Rod power tour. She had never seen the new Challenger untill it pulled up beside her. She was so impressed that she went back to work and called the local dealership to see how much a Challenger cost. They told her it had'nt been built yet and she must have see a charger rt. She told them she Knew how to read and the car said Challenger on the rear Qts. She decided to call a person she had met on the Hot Rod power tour, that was with Chrysler. He told her she wasn't crazy. When she saw me she told me what she saw because she knows I'm diehard Mopar. She doesn't lie, has no reason to tell me something if its not so. I belive her wheather you decide to or not. I had never posted on her before but felt every Mopar person should know. I feel like people think im a lier. I also feel alot of you are not to devoted to this car. I'll buy one when they build it! And they will build it! I'll also not buy a Ford or Chevy while I wait.

you sound sincere enough for me! thanks for the info. this is very good news because it shows just how far along they are to making it to production. I'm just wondering if it is a mule, why they didnt cover up the 'challenger' lettering on the rear panel? maybe even better, like you said, its for a commercial which means there is more than just the show car that is built and its very production ready.
I also feel alot of you are not to devoted to this car. I'll buy one when they build it! And they will build it! I'll also not buy a Ford or Chevy while I wait.
how could they hide the fact that it's in production already? I don't think that's something they could hide from all the mag's out there, plus all the workers working on the cars!
I do believe it's coming, hopefully in model year '08. If they're filming a commercial for it now....edit it in a few months, yup...by my calculations that'll put the official commercial out by November 06!!
I'm beginning to think (hope?) like you kirndog, there definitely seems to be a lot brewing in the background and sufficient rumors pointing to a late '06 release to get me hoping.
A friend of mine was stopped at a red light at a four lane intersection right next to a Firepower a year and a half ago. More than likely being road tested. And still NO FIREPOWER!! I hope the Challenger has better luck. I think it has a much broader buyer base than the Firepower would. $20,000 to $40,000. 3-5 engine choices. This car could be sold to 20 year old college girls up to 50 year old muscle maniacs who once bought the real stuff.

It is possible they knew exactly what they had the moment the concept was finished and didn't need feedback to green light another black one JUST IN CASE they got the reaction they were hoping for. You don't have to be a genius to look at Barret Jackson and the millon dollar hemi challengers being auctioned off and draw some conclusions about the car's enduring popularity. The original challenger's life was cut short WAAAY before its time and everyone knows it. These rumors once again point to the possibility of a spring 2007 launch which has been mentioned by multiple people from multiple sources. I have no personal corroboration on this but it is kind of suspicious.
On the other hand why no spy pictures have surfaced yet is another great mystery.

I also have no reason not to believe you. As a matter of fact, where I live, I've seen several concept vehicles on the next major street over from my home. This particular street also becomes a well-known stretch of mountain roadway where various vehicle manufacturers have tested the handling characteristics of their pre-production concept vehicles...the Chrysler '300C' being one of the most recent. This particular roadway has also been used in various movies...one of the most famous - "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"...a "Cannon Ball Run"-type movie of 1963.

Ahhhhh...memories. I grew up in that area, even worked at the ski resort one fall/winter. My parents still live back there and I love being able to go back.

Well, This sounds like a dream ! DCX is certainly not going to build another 2006 Dodge Challenger Concept at this time ; when it is currently appearing at autoshows.Besides, the Concept is the only one DCX has built !! Also, certainly not in Black and most likely would not be as Foolish to have it around that area at this time ; especially with the real possibility of ice and/or snow on the roads === Please ,someone put an end to this Ridiculous Thread ! The only black Challenger seen, if seen , had to be '70 -'74 !
One thing I remembered seeing is that someone was making the complete E-body style as a completely remade restored NEW with less weight more horseys as in a modern hemi wonder if someone saw one of those floating around?
chryslers version of the viper, first look and you know is from a viper drivetrain, but it has the 6.1 hemi in it. this car is cool as heck, sounds great also.
