Re: Challenger R/t 0-60

Don't worry about it, extra performance is just a bottle of nitrous away. My friend added a NX system to his stock 2003 z06 and dropped .80 off his 1/4 mile with an encrease it trap speed of 11mph and that was only a "100hp" shot. That may not sound like much but this was spinning though alot of first gear, and NO I'M NOT a salesmen for NX products I'm just a motorhead.

Re: Challenger R/t 0-60

Automatic 5.7 chargers have 2.82 rear gears. SRT chargers have 3.06

The ratios between automatic (5 speed) and 6 speed are different.

Realistic 0-60 with a 6 speed will be in the upper 5's

5.7 Autos will be around 6 secs

Re: Challenger R/t 0-60

I just found a 0-60 calculator based on weight in kg and bhp and it comes 5.5 for rt. The g8 gt calculated comes to 5.4, Ive seen 5.4 for thr g8 in mags so its gotta be fairly accurate.

3.73 with 18in wheels....3.91 with the 20s.

I dont think the R/T gets 3.06 gears in the auto.

If it did though, the 3.92 in the manual and 3.06 in the auto would make 1st and 2nd gear almost identical. So there is really no performance gain there. Just because it gets a 3.92 gear doesnt mean it will be faster, alot of times the manufacturer just lowers the 1st gear ratio to match it.

Re: Challenger R/t 0-60

The auto R/T should be much quicker than 5.9s 0-60 with 370hp and 398tq at 4100lbs. The reason it is so slow is that it doesn't have the limited slip differential available on the R/T auto! With no limited slip the car can't grab the road and launch. Instead the traction control turns on (on 10% of the time even if the switch is off which you can disable somehow by modding it) and retards the engine timing and pulses the brakes.

Assuming you disable the traction control 100% and install a Quafe limited slip rear end (upgraded axle shafts reccomended with this mod) on the Mercedes Benz 215 differential or the new Challenger Sure Grip (whomever makes that for Chrysler), you will gain four tenths right away in launch time meaning 5.4s.

This is right up there with limited slip Pontiac G8 GT which weighs about the same.

Also, my girlfriend's 1995 Camaro Z28 with the 5.7L/275hp/325tq 3500lbs automatic did the 0-60 in 5.8s stock with the 3.23 limited slip rear so an extra 600lbs coupled with almost 100 more hp and more than 70lbsFt more tq should still be quicker than the Z28 and the limited slip addition will do it except that it will cost you about $1500 for the Quafe and about $600 for the shafts. The Sure Grip should be cheaper to get and I hope MoPar offers it as an accessory.

My 1994 Impala SS at 4200lbs with a 3.08 limited slip coupled to the same auto trans as the Z28 (which uses a 3.06:1 1st gear planetary) with the 5.7L 260hp/330tq did 0-60 in 6.5s conistently and once I got it down to 6.0s on a evening in January right before it snowed but it will otherwise to it 6.5s consistently. If I had 370hp and 398tq in my Impala SS it would be a rocket and it only weighs 100lbs more. So yes, limited slip is a must. There are guys on the 300c forums that shaved 4s 0-60 by installing the Quaife and was the best $1500 they ever spent. It sure would be nice if the limited slip was stock on the 09 auto R/T as that is my fav combo. I don't really need the SRT8 do do my fishtails (my fav passtime hobby) as 398tq and a limited slip would be sufficent and I wouldn't have to be forced to buy Premium Fuel and have 13 city 18 highway doing it although I think I would take the R/T emblems off the R/T and change the rims to a MoPar Accessory rim to make it confusing whether or not I have an SRT which is the top dog street cred.

I would also put on Cold Air Induction and headers on the R/T as well plus perhaps the MoPar Hi Stall torque converter and a Diablo Power Tune for 89 Octane.

Re: Challenger R/t 0-60

I would want to order one with the 3.92 then just put smaller wider wheels on it. better gear more rubber and less weight.

True that. I haven't seen any tranny ratios yet. Have you seen them posted anywhere yet?
